Terrible stuff. This story might get more attention should the shooter be muslim maybe? The other threads are full of assumptions.

The worst part is if you read the times piece half the article is about Orlando I guess these victims don't even warrant a whole story.

This is ridiculous. Every week there's a new shooting. We're not safe anywhere anymore. RIP to those, and I pray those injured have a successful recovery.

So? Probably a little younger than I would have been out that late. But probably only by a year.

I don't think "nice" parents let their kids out at 1:00 am. I think "negligent" parents let their kids out at 1:00 am.

Nothing that a 13-14 year old needs to be involved in happens at that hour.

I don't think the time of night has any relevance to the fact this was an appalling crime. Nasty people exist 24 hours a day and the gunman can not be relieved of any blame whatsoever.

Why can't teenagers party with their friends? It's good for their social skills.

Nobody will disagree with you on that.

And nobody is trying to imply that this was any less a horrific crime, or that the gunman somehow isn't as responsible because it was teens and the hour was late.

People are simply commenting on how it was an awfully late hour for 13-14 year olds to be out at a night-club.

It's not that uncommon where I am from so perhaps I wasn't surprised. It is the school holidays and teenage discos are common place now.

I'm sure the parents were happy as they knew their children were safe within a venue until they were to be picked up. This tragic incident is a parents worst nightmare and not expected.

Safe within a venue...I guess. But the kind of thing that happens in those venues (drugs, alcohol, etc) is not what I would choose to allow my daughter to associate with at this age.

She's home by 10, at the latest.

Neither of my daughters are old enough yet but I will probably be the same.

Not a parent I take it?

Alcohol has no redeeming values. It causes cancer, liver failure, and is behind a myriad of poor decision making (often fatal). Yet despite all this, it is immensely popular.

Drugs, do I have to explain that one?

My daughter isn't permitted to do these things until she is of legal age (for alcohol since there isn't an age for drugs). And by then I hope we've instilled the values necessary for her to continue to abstain.

If you saw even half the stuff I see on a daily basis related to drugs and alcohol; you'd agree with me.

Hmm, 13yo is indeed a bit early for drug discovery, no? :D

I have to think hard (blaming weed for that :p) when I did start that but would guess that was more late 15-16yo. Except for a sip here and there when at a big festivity where also adults/my mother were.

I took drugs and alcohol as a teenager. As did all my successful friends.
