Looks like it has a much better chance this time, because many people who voted "no" two years ago have changed their minds. There might even be enough votes to override a christie veto. It's the first bill to be voted on in the new session that began yesterday, and has the A1 and S1 docket number in the senate and assembly. Good stuff, hope my state passes this for our gay friends.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one as well...Hopefully this will go as NY went. The more states that pass it the better - These legislators need to show the rest of the country that times are changing.

I hope it passes. This is one over due. The more states that make it legal the higher chance that the rest of the states and the nation pass it.
We need it to go always to the supreme court so it is legal for gays to be married like it should be.

You know, the cultural difference in this country is incredible. While states in the south and midwest battle whether to pass constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage or to just pass some form of domestic partnerships instead, states like NJ and NY actually make a civil rights issue a first priority and have been pushing for this for the past decade. Apparently, the viewpoints of many of our politicians in this state have changed in the last 2 years and that's refreshing to hear.

Hmmm, the article wasn't so optimistic about being able to override a veto, but we can always hope....

I'm all for it. I think its pathetic that we're even having to talk about this as a country. Kind of embarrassing, really.

I keep waiting for a good non religious argument on why gays can not marry.

The biggest arguments against gay marriage fall apart when run up against separation of church and state. Sorry religious reasons for not allowing gay marriage are not valid ones.

Now the church I am fine with them saying no to preforming and doing gay marriage that is with in their right and I fully support the churches right to refuse to preform them. There is religious text supporting that stance but again that is church and not state. The state can not nor should they tell churches who they can and can not marry but at the same token the church can not and should not be telling the state who they can and can not marry.

You know what? That trash is pollution from your side of the hudson river, and quite frankly i think the state of NY should be fined for it, plus a class action lawsuit on behalf of the people of NJ for pain and suffering.

Now now, if y'all wanna have a NY vs NJ fight go make a thread for it. But you shouldn't bother, NJ will loose horribly.

I may or may not agree with your statement.

    If only.

    ----------

NJ will always win because we are willing to fight, even though deep down you're right.

Yea, well we kind of have part of Ellis Island maybe, and... some other stuff.:D

That's true! We have a bunch of really cool fish, which you can see and only risk your life. Nowhere else in America can you do that.

And the Jersey Devil will eat you.

But back to the fact that gay marriage is closer to being legalized in NJ. Awesome.
