    ****EDIT****
Subject should read: "No more amnesty for illegal Cuban immigrants!!!"
    ****EDIT****

    http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/u-...n-end-wet-foot-dry-foot-policy-cubans-n706311
"The Obama administration is ending policy, dubbed "wet foot, dry foot", which gave Cuban arrivals to the U.S. residency even if they didn't have visas, the White House announced Thursday."

They should have given at least 72 hours notice. It is going to really suck if you made all that effort and took that risk thinking you are going to claim political asylum as soon as you made landfall and get your visa only to be locked up and sent back because you were 2 hours late.

Well it was for political asylum. That has changed now. Makes sense.

We'll have to get rid of amnesty for illegal Cuban immigrants because we're also going to have to get rid of the instant political asylum scam that illegals coming to the southern border have been using to be apprehended and brought into the United States.

No more amnesty and no more political asylum for illegals.

Should have been done 50 years ago. But better late than never. Props to Obama.

The wet foot dry foot policy that Obama rescinded today has only been in effect since 1995.

It only took 7 years and 51 weeks but Obama finally did something I agreed with.

I'd suspect the tune of a few would be very different here if Trump did this and not Obama. Ya partisanship!

We should probably not have amnesty for about 30% of American citizens born here. Whatever your political leanings are I’m sure you could think of a type you’d like to give the heave ho to.

Top of the list: people who throw empty beer cans out the window of their truck... a) for DWI and b) for littering...

Sounds fine to me. Many people in Canada vacation there, not exactly a war zone.

I always thought this to be one of the more bizzare laws on the books. If you make it to dry land you can stay. If we catch you in the water then we send you back. It sounds like some sort of backyard childhood game.

This change in policy is apparently one result of the thawing in relations between Cuba and the USA that President Obama spent several years working on. And there are some interesting and perhaps not fully appreciated factors at play.

One of which is the fact that the Cuban Government has agreed to accept Cuban illegal immigrants who otherwise would be subject to deportation as a result of crimes they have committed in the United States. The Cuban govt. has apparently agreed to accept back several hundred (of the more than 10,000) who fall into this category.

There is also the longer-term effect this may have on Cuban society and politics going forward. As long as Cubans who were strongly opposed to the existing regime believed they could find automatic sanctuary in the United States, there was an effective disincentive for them to stay in Cuba and work for change there.

Obama was inaugurated Jan. 20, 2009.... Within a week of 8 years. (7 yr, 11 mo, 27 days inc.)

    Or have I misunderstood you?

Nope it is fine and gets the point across. 8 year term and 1 week from ending it. Since there are 52 weeks in year 51 weeks would have elapsed.

If that is your only comment over a day or so, that is as weak as the outgoing president.

Yep. The left's entire goal is to get more people on their plantation, through the lure of citizenship and free stuff. They want a completely dependent and brainwashed population indentured to them so they can institute full blown communism (their dream).

The law was passed in 1997 and it took 8 years... That would bring us to 2006. Or was there really no point in staying when the law went into effect?

You have no clue to what your are responding to or talking about.

Bill Clinton passed the law in May 1995. It didn't take 8 years for the law to effect. Just like when Obama ended the law, it went into effect immediately under Clinton.

The 7 years 51 weeks was simply how long it took me to agree with an Obama policy.

No. I have no idea what you're talking about. You want to be happy that Obama did one this in his administration that made you happy, that's great. It only took him 8 years, that's great. But why muddy the waters by mentioning the date the law was passed? It's totally irrelevant.

The point is you misunderstood the poster when you made a comment exclusively insulting their math, which was fine.
