This is an issue that had been bugging me with my 30mpbs internet previously, but now that I have 105mbps it seems like even more of a waste to not stream YouTube in 1080p on the 6 Plus. I'm using an Airport Express as my router so technically there should be no convectivity bottlenecks yet even YouTube over LTE is seemingly faster. Frankly I can't figure out where the connection issue lies.

With the You Tube app. Read the reviews from others complaining of the same issue.
If you're not using the app then I don't know..

I should mention that this is with the official app. A lot of people have had connectivity issues with YouTube on iPhone through every gen. 1080p buffers so much it's unwatchable. 720p is fine although I can't skip as quickly as I should be able to.

Get Tubex, its the best youtube app imo. At least plays straight with no buffering error ****...

I am pretty sure this is the ISPs... I have Verizon FIOS with 75 75 (regularly get 90mbps down). Yet, it can take 15 mins to download a 1080p Youtube video that's less than a dozen minutes in length. Same thing happens on my desktop. Net neu<cough cough> ok I won't go there.

Try the Protube app. I had streaming problems with the youtube app, yet Protube streamed 1080p video on my iPad without any hiccups.

I havent experienced this issue on my iphone, but i have with my pc. I have verizon fios 50/50 but regulary get 60/70. It buffers constantly and gives me the popup that says "experiencing issues." It works fine streaming on my iphone....

I have the same issue on my 6+. Also had the same issue on my Air 2. I have 60Mbps and an Airport Express. There was a YouTube app update a few days ago. I played a video last night on my Air 2 and set it to 1080p and it loaded flawlessly. Maybe update the app, force quit everything, shut down the iPhone for a few minutes and restart. I haven't tested the new update on my 6+ yet. But like others have said, the reviews on the YouTube app all say the same thing.

Tubex did do the trick! In fact every YouTube app I've tried loads quicker than the official one.

I have the same experience. There are more than a number of problems with playing video on the Youtube app. I don't know if the problem is exclusive to Youtube as I've had a lot of issues in general with any type of browser-based/Facebook video on my 6+. While I did have some issues with my iPhone 6 when I had one a few months, my new 6+ definitely has a few more video problems as well as the horrendous 1080P issue mentioned above.

Tubex doesn't seem to be working for me... Lots of issues with authentication because I have two-step enabled on my Google account and it's forcing me to make G+ profile.

I haven't tried logging into my Google account yet but buffering/skipping through videos is practically instantaneous.

I am an oddball with internet that is only about 15mbps down, and 1mbps up. The YouTube app was a true nightmare to use, it would barely work in 240p sometimes! However I got Protube and it goes straight through a 20 minute video in 1080p without a hiccup (usually, not all the time, but the hiccups are only minor). I typically watch in 720p though because I can't see a *ton* of a difference between 720p and 1080p (on my iPad! On my PC 720p vs 1080p is literally night and day) and I've never have had a video stop in 720p. Plus it's faster to scroll around videos, so. Yeah. Just use a different app for YouTube. Google's app truly sucks.
