This is just trying to manufacture outrage, if the supervolcano blows, a rinky dink nuclear plant on top will be the least of the residents worries...

If any of those supervalcano's in the west goes, 1/2 the continent is going to be an inhabitable mess of epic proportions for years. With horrendous micro climate conditions around the world.

Lets just add a little radioactivity to the mix :p

In all seriousness though. This is manufactured outrage from a genuine fake news website (that just feels filthy to have to type now)

This isn’t your average volcano. It could carry ash as far as New York, and there would be a widespread area of radioactive acid rain. Not a good situation.

Just before any of the right wing members chime in with their joy... as Looney as California is. The state is responsible for a good chunk of our nations GDP

Be careful what you wish for

I've heard that argument. But I always wonder what portion of that large "GDP" is because California based companies have unfettered access to consumers, employees, tax shelters, commerce and the laws of the rest of the United States. In other words, what would that famed "GDP" be if they became just another country having to deal with customs & immigration, tariffs, licensing and travel visas to enter the rest of the United States??

    Still probably pretty high.

Too put it in perspective, California's GDP is equal to that of the UK on it's own. POpulation wise, they are close to 40 million which makes them even more populous than the whole of Canada. If California were to split and become it's own country, it would still be a massive enough entity to establish it's own trade and deals with most of the world.

Sure it wouldn't be easy. Such a split would be Brexit style and likely have SOME negative financial reprocussions. But when you have such a massive economical engine powered by entire country worth of population density, there is power there to establish their own independence with success.

Heck, who knows, maybe Cali would petition to join Canada :p

If Canada would want to do this and it would only be for the tech companies and Canadians to vacation there.

we really wouldn't want to do it honestly.

As I mentioned in the numbers above, if Canada absorbed California, California would immediately have 55% of Canada's population and vote power.

it would end up mor elike Canada joining California and not the other way around. Canadians are not ready to give up our power to Americans :p

We love eachother very much. USA and Canada are siblings in the west and we rely heavily on eachother. But as Canadians, we often are very proud of not being american :p. So such a move would really be unpopular here. (Aside from the hard core conservatives who already wish we were run by the states, most Canadians are proud of being sovereign nation of our own)
