Maybe Trump wasn't too far off:

Clear abuse of power in order to spy on Americans for no apparent reason. Everyone laughed at Trump when he said he was tapped, but the further down the rabbit hole you go the more it looks like it probably happened to him or at least to the people around him.

What good is being on a list if you don't know that you're on the list.

    Holy smegging hyperbole.

So now a web search by a government entity is now considered "spying". So when I was working for the DoD, and I did a search for "Linux Kernel Upgrades", I must have been spying on Linus, Alan Cox, Richard Stallman, and many others. o_O

Wow, do some people here live in complete and total fear.

BTW: complete and total misleading title, and you are requested to change it.

So when someone in the government does a web search for any internet data, that must mean they are spying?

Again, the title is completely misleading, but let's not let that get in the way of yet another circle jerk.

Your article says nothing to support the idea that Trump Tower was monitored in any way. The closest it gets is Rand Paul claiming without evidence that Obama admin officials may have been asking names to be unmasked for political reasons.

On the overall subject of domestic spying, they were wrong to be doing it like that, but truly Romney or McCain would have been doing the same thing and much worse things in other areas.

Let's follow the rabbit hole. Is a web search "spying"? Yes, or no?

That is the biggest deflection ever . How much sPying is acceptable to you? The only reason you are deflecting is because of obama

Hence, the whole spying thing, with Obama did it, followed by Bush did it, repeating ad infinitum.

    Google is your friend. ;)

You must not realize what the NSA has in it's database. It's not a web search.

You are clearly living on borrowed time, which may or may not be compatible with gpl.

I never said they didn't belong in jail, did I?

I'll say the same thing that I have said with Trump and Russian collusion: Let Lady Justice sort it out.

Billy Joel said once in the song Keeping the Faith, "Justice may be blind, but I hope she ain't deaf." However, Lady Justice can't do a damned thing if people don't speak up about it. Speaking up about it after a POTUS' term is finished is not the right time to do so, especially if the issue may have already been addressed; hence the circle jerk.

Anyone who thinks the gov't / big brother isn't spying and looking into vast areas of our lives is likely living under a rock. When the powers that be have the capability to do it there's little doubt in my mind that they are. People are leaking secrets left and right recently who knows what other nefarious things they are doing to better their own agenda. If they will do it to the targets we see today, think about the ones we don't see every other day.

Honestly, nothing new to see here.

Again, another reason why I personally disliked Obama. Bush started/revamped the surveillance state using 9/11 to get the nearly 20 years old wishlist known as the Patriot Act pushed through. Then the next president comes in and "legitimizes" the growing police state.

Yes, it would be spying if the search were being conducted on my data. Even more so when you are searching through my collected data using keywords of U.S. citizen identifiers, as the article states.

(Not literally my data, as I'm not a U.S. citizen.)

Yet more evidence that the Obama Administration was one of the most, if not most, authoritarian administrations in recent history.

It's sad, really. Obama illegally spies on Americans and journalists and nobody bats an eye. Donald Trump stops issuing a few visas and all of a sudden it's bedlam.

Is it? Maybe you can explain why the reactions to the two actions are so different.

Spying/Invasion of Privacy is the same thing as a travel ban? On what planet?
