Good thing the judge in this case, unlike the Obama administration, seems to have a decent grasp on basic statistics and common sense in regards to economics. How sad that we live in a time where the President can make such ridiculous 'bans' and not get questioned seemingly AT ALL by the mainstream media as to the constitutionality of the ban, as to the logic of the ban, as to the economics of the ban. Many are justifiably beginning to question the motives of this president.

45% of blow-out-preventers fail according to BP's own research.

Still think it's safe to drill in deep water. BP never thought so. This is a judge who has been bought and paid for. This is a shameful decision.

Not to mention, this is the Judicial branch overreaching into the executive branch's exclusive domain.

Its quite alarming - that shouldn't happen in a developed country.

None of this would have happened if they were still allowed to drill in shallower waters.

Given the US government is bought and paid for I'm sure if the oil companies thought there was lots of oil closer to shore they could get the law changed.

    Wont

Won't somebody please think of the child-I mean, Seagulls!

But seriously, making them stop won't help anybody. It will probably just result in more expensive gas, more people unemployed, and an even further stagnated economy. Freak accidents happen, and they should stick the blame where it belongs- on BP, not on an entire industry.

To all the naysayers- I invite you to come up with the alternative to oil....any day now..... (crickets)

There aren't outright replacements just yet - but oil use could be cut significantly without any loss in standard of living (or only a minor cut). E.g. insulating homes properly, buying more efficient and smaller cars, using high-speed rail instead of flying. Adopting a 20C/28C policy (or a 70F/85F policy) on heating/air conditioning would help too.

+1 Our government talked companies into drilling in more risky (deeper) waters with the promise of a 75 million dollar liability cap. Much to the individual state's dismay who promoted safer drilling on shore and in the shallows. Big government causing disasters again.

    ahahah

Our king tries not to dictate to his subjects what temperature to keep their homes at.

    Oh wait, I'm confused.

Love it when big-government progressives show their true communist/socialist sides. If by 'policy' you mean government 'monitoring and controlling' the temperature in side of our homes.

Don't worry, Eraserhead, it's not just you...

I think the ban was purely a political move--to show the President is serious about the problem. It probably has no logical or legal basis.

If people are angry they should stop putting gas in their cars or buying products made with oil. No one will of course, but that won't stop people from getting on their high horses about how evil BP is while proclaiming their love for the environment.

There is no ***** source for that LIE. Deep water is where the oil is, not where they have to go. There are tons of shallow water wells.

    LIAR!

Soon, there will be a second smackdown, when Obama loses to Arizona in court. He should get used to it!:D

    Wanna bet?

Photoshop. I could put my **** in your mouth with a little photoshop. Oops, my **** filter accidentally went off. I don't understand why it keeps trying to censor rock.

(edit) funny thing is that that photoshop is almost as ineffective as your ****. Damnit, it keeps happening.

Good move by the courts. These asinine bans on things so it looks like action is being taken are ridiculous.

Balance of power, a wonderful thing.

My position on the gulf disaster: if you drive a gasoline powered vehicle, quit bitching about oil spills!

Now if there is another spill (more an inevitable when) the democrats and Obama can claim they tried to be conservative but where stopped by the courts. So it is a win for them politically. Repubs etc can claim this a win for themselves (and their money source from big business). Future spills will cause other americans to lose their livelihoods. So a loss for them. As well as a loss for all the world losing more habitats to pollution. In the meantime the other winners are big businesses like BP and the average driver who can fill up perhaps a few cents per litter cheaper.

Like the op's posting history this is 99% culture wars posturing.

No genius, that image is NOT photoshopped. You are 100% wrong and mistaken. Liberals are sure quick to make bold assertions and claims on here that are completely false. A quick google could have told you that.

Here is a link to AP and to the story and photos.
