Officer Ben Hall failed to issue a citation to an obviously reckless mother when she was traveling in a vehicle without having a legally required carseat. The woman gave a sob story about her car having been repossessed with the carseat inside. The officer then allowed her to continue to travel in said vehicle in clear violation of the law to the local Walmart.

Where he purchased a carseat with his own funds. His $55 purchase made the Waltons smile as they heard the cash register ring. Laborers in some APAC country will toil extra hours to make a replacement seat to ship to Walmart. The municipality will not get to add the fine money to its coffers.

Thus far, the officer is still on patrol duty. He has not been suspended or terminated. Luckily, a Walmart employee snapped some photos of this act which caused the publicity that exposed this dereliction of duty.

Look at the picture… He had the taser right there on his belt. Unfortunately, the woman complied with his instructions. So he let her off with a new car seat.

    Yes.

Show me a story where a white cop does the same thing for a black person.

What he did was good, but too bad we'll never know if this is this policeman's universal response regardless of race. I'm not implying that it would not be.

Are you saying there's more hurting than helping going on? Like jkcerda said, the bad examples are the ones that tend to get reported and sensationalized.

    ----------

Then why are you bringing it up?

    Had to look it up.

Otherwise ... what are we supposed to say?

Awww. Look at the nice cop.

    How sweet.

By your and jkcerda's own words we don't know the ratio of doing good vs. doing bad.

From what I see on the daily news. Yes. There is much more hurting going on.

In other words this story should be the norm not the unusual.

Then I suggest you stop believing the world is only as you see it on the daily news. Open your eyes a bit and get out in the world. Interact with people. If you really do believe the police as a whole do more harm than good then I feel really sorry for you.

I'm guessing you don't live in a city that has the Federal Government watching over the local P.D. because of too many killings.

But you choose to live there. You know U-Haul rents trucks seven days a week.

In my town, it isn't unusual to see an officer changing a tire or pouring gas in the tank of a stranded motorist. Down in the south, well maybe not in Atlanta but in the rural areas, people call the police when they accidentally lock their keys in the car.

And I'm still willing to bet that in the worst P.D. in the nation there are still more cops doing good than bad. You seem to have a very myopic view on things.

I could flip that coin and say the same thing about your view.

Unless you follow every cop around you have no way of knowing what percentage of cops do good things as opposed to bad things. Your sources are the same as mine.
