Recently I have gotten into Flickr pretty hardcore. The app is great for uploading, but the browsing aspect is pretty lame. For most of my browsing on the site I rely upon groups I have joined. I see nothing in the app with groups at all. Is this just an oversite by Flickr or am I missing something here?

You're not missing anything. The official Flickr app is SEVERELY lacking. There are better apps for browsing Flickr - my favorite is MobileFotos (where you can browse via groups, and a gazillion other things you can't do on the Flickr app).
