That means the wall will cost more. But that is OK. Maybe we can skip building it between CA and Mexico and just start working on one up the eastern/norther borders of CA.

Well the good news is that this would take away 50+ electoral votes from the Democrats. There's a silver lining in everything right? Right...?

Anybody? Is it just me? Okay.

That's fascinating. Thank you for the research. So much of [Southern] Cali's appeal is it's sun-soaked beach and surf culture so it'd be interesting to see what the logistics of a secession would actually entail.

If you ask me this will be just like Texas threatening to secede a while back -- it won't happen.

Nothing screams "unity" like filing a proposal to secede from the United States.

If we're going to make fun of California, we also have to make fun of Texas, who brings this up like once a year.

Growing up in a small-ish rural Texas town south of Houston it wasn't uncommon to hear a bunch of my confederate flag sportin' redneck friends go on and on about secession in High School all because their parents ranted about it.

What California would gain by keeping tax revenues in the state, they would lose in having to create things like it's own military for example.
You know the federal government is not going to simply give California all the federally owned property, military bases, and equipment.
They're going to see a lot of expenses in basically starting from scratch in many areas.
Plus a seriously doubt the feds would simply let California leave since it is not legal for any state to secede.
The citizens can vote all they want, but it is not going to happen peacefully.

I would also bet a good chunk of rural California would not vote for it.
So there could be a civil war within the state itself if Sacramento tried to seize the land.

It will get messy and possibly bloody.

So you admit that Trump is not unifying the country - but doing the exact opposite. Good to know you agree.

Good. Hopefully CA will build a wall around the state but leave the southern boarder open.

I live/work in Northwest (Spring/Woodlands), and it's something I hear fairly often. I believe it was even voted in the legislature either last year or in 2015. It obviously never gets very far.

If I remember correctly a small group was able to push it to the congressional convention but it was struck down in about 5 seconds.

I think that where any State entertains a motion to secede, it's just revealing the stupid citizens who knee jerk themselves into things and really have not thought it through. Note, Texas has entertained several of these proposals or motions, but I don't know how far they have gotten. I don't think any of them have ever been voted on.

Just threaten to take the mole recipe with you to the grave, and they won't bomb that part of Southern California. I suppose that works for me as well, given the proximity.
