iPhone 1 = iPhone (2G). 2G stands for Edge speed. Yes I know it was just called iPhone.

    iPhone 2 = iPhone 3G. 3G is for 3G speed.

iPhone 3 = iPhone 3Gs. The s is for hardware speed.

iPhone 4 = iPhone 4. This is the 4th iteration of the device.

iPhone 5 = iPhone 4s or iPhone 5. This is where everyone is getting mixed up. If they call it the 4s this summer the next one will be the 6th iPhone not iPhone 5 because this is the 5th iPhone no matter what they call it.

iPhone 6 = Next Year and would be called iPhone 6 because it will be the 6th iteration of the iPhone line. OR become more confusing and call it the iPhone 4G if it has 4G speed :D

I'm only saying this because many people get confused with iteration number and speed.

EDIT: Okay forget it :D Let's just call it iPhone HERP DERP and leave it at that hahaha

Pretty sure the original iPhone was not called iPhone 2G, I remember it clearly as the 'iPhone'

Yeah, depending on what they do the 2012 iPhone could logically end up being called iPhone 4G, iPhone 5, or iPhone 6!

    Fun, ain't it? :D

Absolutely correct :D, But people just called it that when referring to which model it was.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

I think they will stop calling it numbers after 5..

I'm sure Steve Jobs is following this thread to see what the next iPhone should be called. Apple can call the next iPhone whatever they want, it's their product.

I think they should switch to the Roman numerical system.

iPhone V, V for "Verizon too!"

or "Very.." they can do a commercial out of this "iPhone V is very.. intelligent, powerful, artistic... etc."

Repeating my idea from a few weeks ago.

Abandon the number scheme. Go with fruit.

    "Which iPhone do you have?"
iPhone Banana. I just upgraded from iPhone Papaya.
"Oh sweet. I'm getting iPhone Kumquat when it comes out next month."

I don't think it would be iPhone 5. The next iteration (be it in June, Sept, or whenever is the 5th iPhone. It could be iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, etc. The one after that (that you're calling 2012) is the 6. Calling it the 5 just won't make any sense other than its an upgrade over 4s.

The IP5 will be called iPhone Apocalypse. There will be no more iPhones after that so Apple better throw everything in the pot this time around.
