Old iPhone, New Laptop: don't care about music. How to not lose everything w/sync?

I got a new laptop and don't have access to my old one anymore. I have my existing iPhone that has tons of contacts, pictures, etc. How do I sync so that I don't lose everything? I don't care about music, I have all that backed up separately.

Yes, but I don't back everything up there-- pictures on the phone, for example, are too big to fit in iCloud.

The just go to iCloud.com and check see if your contacts are complete.
