USA
We are still a nation that is too divided. . . . We are still a nation that is still too cynical. . . . We have lost the understanding that in a democracy, we have a mutual obligation to one another — that we cannot measure the greatness of our society by the strongest and richest of us, but we have to measure our greatness by the least of these. That we have to compromise and sacrifice for one another in order to get things done. That is why I am here, because Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation.
(M. Obama)

People are more cynical than ever, more divided than ever (not intentionally), compromise has only gone so far, and worst of all more people are hurting economically in one form or another... where did Obama fail the American population? Or did he?

Is it entirely Congress' fault by obstruction, even when they compromised or got him to compromise (and sometimes cleverly so given how much more Obama dropped instead of the opposition GOP)? Did they override all of the executive orders he placed? How come so many promises were broken, Politifact is an interesting resource - though it takes time to read and tally the broken promises of much substance versus kept promises of little substance and vice-versa and inversely so.

Do I believe he's failed? No. Overall, his reputation is not going to be dismal. But what truly kept him from doing more to benefit the people of the USA?

He'll be forgotten faster than Carter. I hope his ego can take it.

OBJECTIVE reality
It sure as hell wasn't Obama, and I can't fully blame the obstructionist Congress.

No, it's been the right wing media that's been dividing us more and more every year. Under the guise of "truth" or alternative media, they've been characterizing the mainstream news outlets as a bunch of liars and liberal sycophants, and themselves as the only truth tellers. Years ago they were satisfied making excuses for the failures of their policies; now they've developed an entire alternate reality that people live in, so that certain people can tune out the facts in favor of their own "facts" (as if reality were an arguable thing), and they blame liberals for the failures of everything they do.

In the words of one deplorable, Sad!
