(M. Obama)We are still a nation that is too divided. . . . We are still a nation that is still too cynical. . . . We have lost the understanding that in a democracy, we have a mutual obligation to one another — that we cannot measure the greatness of our society by the strongest and richest of us, but we have to measure our greatness by the least of these. That we have to compromise and sacrifice for one another in order to get things done. That is why I am here, because Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation.
People are more cynical than ever, more divided than ever (not intentionally), compromise has only gone so far, and worst of all more people are hurting economically in one form or another... where did Obama fail the American population? Or did he?
Is it entirely Congress' fault by obstruction, even when they compromised or got him to compromise (and sometimes cleverly so given how much more Obama dropped instead of the opposition GOP)? Did they override all of the executive orders he placed? How come so many promises were broken, Politifact is an interesting resource - though it takes time to read and tally the broken promises of much substance versus kept promises of little substance and vice-versa and inversely so.
Do I believe he's failed? No. Overall, his reputation is not going to be dismal. But what truly kept him from doing more to benefit the people of the USA?
