to sum it up for the english readers:
austrian oil+earth gas company OMV (which is also operating in , germany, ireland, UK, tunesia, romania, pakistan, yemen, quatar,, kazachastan , bulgaria and lybia) strikes a "future cooperation contract" with the Iranian National oil company for the Quatar-Iranian earth gas field which is the second biggest in the world while saying that they will adhere to international contracts from UNO/EU and reducing dependancy on russian gas and what is the result ? the US government aproaches the austrian government say "timing is bad" "you are helping the iranians" and even threatening to dissallow trading with OMV stock in the US and the usual stuff

it has of course nothing to do with the fact that this deal is worth estimated 25 to 30 billion Euro over the next 10 years not counting the planned earth gas harbour facilites in croatia and infrastructure investments and there were zero chance that a US company might have gotten the deal ?

The European Commission could do with telling the USA to butt out on this one. Since when does The White House have jurisdiction over trade in either the Persian Gulf or Europe?

usually it's US business interests that are accused of acting for their own financial gain so it's interesting to see that european companies operate on the same principal....and that people are actually proud of it!

We don't have the axe to grind against Iran that you do. For Europe, there's no difference between doing this for Iran or Saudi, except for the interference from the US State Department.

that's an odd thing to say considering that for the last several years the UK, France and Germany have been the point team in trying to deter the Iranian push for nuclear power. The UN sanctions against Iran are something that you lot have been pushing for too. Also, given the statements from the Iranians while they were holding your sailors, it seems they feel you have followed an exploitive anti-Iranian line for decades....but maybe you're just blissfully unaware that they feel that way

OMV is an Austrian company. As far as I'm concerned they can choose to trade with whomever the Austrian Government allows them to. The EU is not a great big centralised bloc where everybody has to do what France, Germany or the UK says.

As for our problems with Iran, that has as much to do with our toadying to whoever's in the White House more than anything else. The last British PM that had any idea how to respond to the Americans was Churchill.

nah, your problems with the Iranians stem back to such things as when you guys overthrew Reza Shah and replaced him with Mohammad Reza Pahlavi early in WW2, which gave you control of Iran's oil.

And speaking of toadying to whoever's in the white house....when are you guys going to toss out Blair and his Labor party cronies? You keep complaining about us, but maybe you should consider cleaning up your own act as well.

The man's sidestepped most of the public's anger by telling everyone who'll listen about his imminent departure. Trouble is, he said it two years ago but is still there, stinking up Westminster with the rot of corruption. We have Scottish and local elections here in a couple of weeks. I hope if Labour get the drubbing the pollsters are predicting he'll finally pack his bag and **** off.
