Im pretty much sick of it. Makes me want to get rid of it. I cannot even go outdoors to use my MBA without it freezing up real fast because of stupid core shutdown. Trying recording video in quicktime and its freezing up within a 5 minute recording window.

Voodoo Envy will be out soon and if it doesn't get this freezing and core shutdown crap Im sold.

as much as I love my MBA, this thing is so finnicky that it can be a total pain in the butt even though I haven't had as many problems as you. Mine only tends to shtdown when watching video for a good amount of time, but htis still should not be a problem.

I don't really get how mine has gotten worse and worse. I didn't have all these problems for a good while, then it slowly started, then worse and worse and worse. I remember when I use to watch HD shows on my MBA! Now watching standard definition tv shows require me to pause and get back to it later after my MBA has done whatever it needs to do to cool off and work properly for a bit longer.

Don't get rid of your MBA for a Voodoo that can't run OS X. Get rid of it by banging on Apple's door and getting them to give you a properly working MBA. You're still under warranty.

Its just that its very annoying that I cant buy one apple product that works right on the first one... Also reading the story about someones MBA being torn apart and fixed and still having issues.

it actually does. i was having that issue, amongst others caused by a repair. I received a call from his representative in his office within 48 hours and walked out of my local apple store with a brand new air, in box, within 72 hours of my email. just make sure your email states the point and isn't rude. praise them for why you like their brand as well. overall, i'm VERY satisfied with their service. they get an A+

Can you give us anymore details on your letter? My MBA isn't "horrible" but it does become a pain many times during use.

My air is fine and I have it hooked up to a 24" 1920x1200 monitor running dual screens.

Honestly, I would say don't get rid of it, get it replaced instead. I watch video on my MBA for LOONG hours. I watch many many episodes of anime w/o problems or shutdowns. I would echo emailing steve jobs, it is really worth a shot. There are several interesting and success stories of people getting a good deal and getting everything fixed for free by emailing him.

Have you even attempted to send this back to Apple for repair?

My Air is fine too. I use it in the back yard (been between 80 - 90F here). I've run two SD movies at the same time for hours, I transcode movies, no problems at all.

Fans do kick into high gear, but that's about it. I would exhaust the Warranty options before emailing the sjobs address.

Two things made my MBA totally usable now: Coolbook and downgraded Flip4Mac. Prior to these, the MBA will experience core shutdown if I played a video (usually Flash) and Time Machine backing up to Time Capsule. I couldn't even play WMV files on Safari because it was so choppy. After Coolbook and reinstalling an older version of F4M, the computer has experienced none of the earlier issues. The fan still runs high (6200 rpm) when connected to my 20" ACD, but is completely silent when used by itself. Plus, I get much better battery life now. I would try these first before sending it for repair. Good luck.

I emailed that sjobs email address last night. We'll see what happens. Hopefully everything turns out great. It's getting tiring having issues with every single Apple product I have bought lately.

You should probably take it into the Apple Store to a Mac genius first, if you haven't done so already.

Or call AppleCare and get a case number. Makes it easier for the PR reps.

A woman from Executive Relations called me today. She left a message. I returned her phone call. That was pretty speedy of a response to my email!

I haven't had the core shutdown issue, but I am also seriously considering a return of my MBA. I emailed Amazon and they said there would not be a restocking fee. I'm concerned that won't be the case after I ship it back, but I do have the email to fall back on.

I'm on the fence about going back to a 15" MacBook Pro. My original laptop was a 1.67 Powerbook. Like many, I love the size and form factor of the MBA. I started seeing one too many rainbow beach balls, which has me concerned. This also had me thinking that I could benefit from the extra real estate of the 15". I took a quick trip to Best Buy last night and just played around the MBP. Programs launch fast and the screen size was nice. It was as expected much heavier than the MBA. I can get over the ports, since once it's set up, I really don't need the extra ports of an MBP.

With any laptop, there are trade-offs. I'm just not sure I can deal with the tradeoffs of the MBA. I do love the thing though, just not sure it's for me.

Can anyone offer insight as to the differences between the glossy MBP and the MBA screen? I love the brightness of the MBA and the keyboard is excellent.

I think part of the problem is that I run an 8-core Mac Pro with 10GB of RAM as my main machine. I might be a bit jaded.

Anyone go from MBP to MBA or vice versa?

BTW, good luck to the OP. Looks like you are on the path to resolving your issue.

I've had it about 3 weeks or so. I work from home, so most of my work is done on the MacPro. Still, I'd like to make the right "mobile" decision. Honestly, I'm torn.
