There is a reason various groups are called elite: It's generally because they are very good at what they do.

If you were to pick a heart surgeon to work on your kid, would you choose an elite specialist, someone with years of experience, a graduate from a top medical school. Or would you choose some guy who took an anatomy class in high-school.

If you are conducting a high-risk military operation to take out a known terrorist leader, holed up in rugged hostile territory, do you pick highly-trained elite special operations troops? Or a bunch of guys whose last time in uniform was the Boy Scouts?

So, no: When it comes to climate change, I'm going to listen to trained climatologists and NASA climate scientists.

That doesn't mean non-elite people don't have valid concerns and beliefs. The role of the elite is to listen to, and engage with, those who are interested in a topic - but don't necessarily have all the information necessary. But both groups need to engage one another in a good faith discussion. And, I'm sorry, but trucker hats and bumper stickers aren't really a discussion.
