Please don't reply to this thread if you liked iOS 16 or thought it was not buggy. This thread is intended only for people who hated iOS 16 and thought it was one of the buggiest iOS versions ever.

With that out of the way, here are the questions: Is iOS 17 a lot less buggy than iOS 16? Is iOS 17 a very noticeable improvement (in terms of having less bugs) than iOS 16?

You'd have to be way more specific. Is it less buggy over iOS 16? I think so. But without saying which bugs you had major issues with you aren't going to get the answers you seek.

Also, if you hate iOS 16 why wouldn't you just upgrade anyway?

There are several bugs. The one that bothers me the most is the overall lagginess and sluggishness at times. I am using a 2020 iPhone SE, and I turn my phone on and off at least twice a day in order to clear out the RAM. But it is stilly laggy and sluggish at times.

The reason I haven't upgraded to iOS 17 is because I don't know whether or not it is worse than iOS 16 in terms of bugginess.

Several months ago, I made a big mistake in thinking that if I wait until iOS 16.3 is released to finally upgrade from iOS 15, it will be an improvement in terms of having less bugs than iOS 15. Boy was I wrong! Even the latest version of iOS 16, which is iOS 16.7, is significantly more buggy than iOS 15.

Well, being honest, I don't like both iOS 16 and 17, but the latter seems to me smoother so far. However, it's on my 13 Pro, I don't know how it would work on your SE 2020, it is worth mentioning, though, that I have downgraded my iPad Pro 2018 due to lags and freezes across the system. So it could highly depend on the device you are using. If I were you, I'd probably stick with iOS 16

I believe that the best version is the one designed for your device... I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and is still on iOS 16.2 and may update to iOS 16.7 RC OTA sometime soon but it is your choice to update to a newer iOS version...

I'm thinking that I may update to iOS 17 once iOS 18 is about to be released and stay with iOS 18.x until the device end of life...

Interesting opinion, actually. I would also say another - use that version of iOS that works good based on your experience. That’s what I did with iPadOS 17 and downgraded to 16 + my 13 Pro is now pretty good on 17.0.1, so maybe I will stick with it for some time.
