So, I've searched countless forums, all with no success. My "other" tab of my iPhone says 8 gb out of the 16 (13 rather) that I have. I NEED to fix this. I do not want to restore at all. Help!
Probably one or more of the apps on your iPhone is using this 'other' storage to store its files/data.
You can then open the app(s) and trash any unwanted data, drawings, music, video, whatever...
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap General, Usage, and wait for the Storage list to display.
- Identify any apps that are using a large amount of space.
Nope, highest is music at 2 gigabytes, then the next highest is a measly 133 mb.
Hmmmm.... OK - have you tried the solution listed here: http://www.ipodrepublic.com/iphone/fixing-issue-other-files-iphone-memory/2010/03/31/
NOTE: Step 2 in that solution mentions using Disk Aid which you have to pay for. An alternative (free) product that you can use instead is iExplorer.
