The employees of the Apple Store in SoHo were given quite a treat this past weekend. As a token of appreciation, Apple rented out Merc Bar to hold an employees-only bash. Besides the $16,000 tab Apple forked over for food and drinks, every employee was given an iPod mini. And, for those of you who don't know, Apple Store employees are given iPods after working there for a month. So, now they have 2 iPods...for free.

Good for them! Normally, happy employees and employees who feel valued provide better customer service. So, hopefully this will benefit everyone all around.

The party itself seems a little extravagant. Maybe it was an early Christmas Party. Wonder is Steve footed the tab? :D The iPod is a good idea. It certainly builds a good esprit de corps among the employees. They will feel appreciated and so give better customer service.

So if you work for a month, get your pay check and your iPod then leave, what can they/do they do about it?

Considering how coveted Apple Store jobs are, and the screening process for recruits, I doubt this is too big of a problem :)

Yeah, I think every full-time employee who works at an Apple store for over a month should be given a free iPod or Mini. It may get the salespeople more enthused about selling a product if they own it, or are allowed to take it home for awhile.
