The twit in the White House made threats against the GOP Senators who chose to vote against Trumpcare and one of his minions, (the Interior Secretary) called up Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski and threatened her state with reprisals for her vote. Guess the little dumbass forgot who she was. She happens to be the chairwoman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. She has postponed votes for 6 Trump nominees to Interior and DOE. Hell hath no fury like a woman threatened by two morons.

Pretty soon we're gonna have a new flag made and a picture of Trump is going to be mandatory in all schools so the children can pledge allegiance to Der Führer. Strum up the old Deutschlandlied. Deutschland, Deutschland über alles, Über alles in der Welt......

Of course Trump will just say she's obstructing and that she's sick/sad for doing so. Completely ignoring the fact that he's the root cause.

This may backfire for her. Alaska went for Trump big time in the election, so I'm sure she's going to get calls to her office from her constituents angry about this delay tactic.

Hell, they should have known what Putin was up too. They can see Russia from their houses.

She also happens to not be up for reelection for a long long time. Longer than Trump!

She's not up for reelection until 2022, two years after Trump. I don't think she is worried about a backfire. If anything, the Trump administration should be the ones worried about a backfire as their mob tactics are revealed and flushed out into the open.

Yep. She's got a solid spot in the Senate, and moreover, why let a little pissant like Zinke push her around when she's got her own leverage?

Moreover, the House health care bill is a terrible deal for Alaska, and McConnell has been trying to buy Murkowski off by giving her state more funding for a "premium stabilization fund."

She has the opportunity to garner some power by refusing to toe the GOP line and can actually operate as a Maverick, unlike a certain other Senator.

We'll see. I wouldn't want to be her at her next town hall meeting.

Maybe... Then again, Trump has always been at his best when he can portray himself as the man who was wronged, as the victim. He kinda sucks at the role of the aggressor; the more that he acts like the petulant bully who wants to get his way at all costs, the more that Alaskans may see themselves as the ones being victimized.

After all, the voters generally don't like it when people try to remove their choice from office, especially for purely personal reasons.

My guess is she'll be just fine. She is liked by the Alaskan people. The 2nd place winner in her last race was a retread republican running as a Libertarian (shame on the LPAlaska for that). She'll be around for as long as she likes.

Looks like now the Interior Departments Office of the Inspector General is involved and is investigating the secretary for his threats. If they find him guilty they could bump it up the line and he could very well be history. Good. We don't need people like him in government.

That probably happened when they couldn't afford the premiums that would allow them to pay out of pocket deductibles the rest of the year.

51% for Trump in 2016 is "big time"?

    For comparison:
    55% for Romney in 2012
    59% for McCain in 2008
    61% for Bush in 2004
    58% for Bush in 2000
    51% for Dole in 1996

Yea, Trump did as well as Dole, and worse than every other candidate to win Alaska since. He lost the Republicans 4 points over the last presidential election. "Big time," what a joke.

And before that she managed to be one of the few senators to win a write in campaign after she lost the GOP primary. In 6 years this will probably be forgotten, and if anything she will be praised for having stood up to Trump before it was popular in the GOP. At the absolute worst for her she might lose the GOP primary to Joe Miller again and have to run as an independent to win.
