I just got a new MBP, my first Mac. I have a library of about 40 GB on my old PC. It is a netbook without a CD drive. I have an external but it is slow as molasses. As far as iPods, I have an older classic (30GB) and an 8 GB touch (2nd gen). I also have a 250 GB external hard drive.
So my first choice was to just copy everything onto the external drive, but it is not working well. It looks like it copies OK, but then I pull up properties and it is only about 17GB that have copied. I have tried a couple times and it just does not work. The hard drive seems to be working fine otherwise but I have given up on this option.
The other issue is that I do have some junk in my library that I don't want to copy. There is some music that I don't want to move. Also, when I look in the iTunes music folder, the folders make no sense. There are a ton of folders for artists that I have eliminated from my library long ago (stuff that was on a compilation, and I deleted much of it), and several artists that I can see in iTunes have no folders in the iTunes music folder. I had been planning to just pick and choose the artists that I transfer, but because of the above, I can't do that.
So, I would like to find a program that I can use to copy music onto my classic and transfer to my MBP. I'm fine with buying the software, if it is reliable and easy. I anticipate I will still be transferring more than 30 GB of music, so just transferring it all to the classic in one trip is not an option. I am looking for something that will allow me to put a bunch of music on the ipod, transfer to the Mac, and make a second trip for the rest. I need to be able to choose the music through itunes because of the strange issue with the folders in the itunes music folder.
I have found a few programs but not as many reviews as I would like. They are not cheap, so I only want to make one purchase. Help!
