In honor of the 1 year anniversary in Newtown, the families have asked asked people to perform an act of kindness to honor the victims. Be it holding the door for someone else, buying the person behind you a cup of coffee. Or what I will be doing today, shoveling snow for the neighbors.

Isn't holding the door for someone common courtesy?

I call people out who don't hold doors with a loud sarcastic "THANKS!!"

As do I. I also give a sarcastic YOU'RE WELCOME for those who don't thank you for holding the door for them.

How do you handle 2 doors in a row, like a meter or two apart? I say thanks after the first one but don't usually say it a second time (same person opens both)

How do they get past you to open the second?

Either you're really slow, or they are really quick.

They usually go first and then hold the door for you, then go and do the same for the second door. I do like sviato and say thank you for the first door held, but not the second one.

    Got it.

I'll have to pay more attention to how I open doors for other people, but normally I think I do it from the other side.

Though sometimes if I walk through a door first I'll do the extra little tap move to keep the door from closing too fast on the next person.

But I can't remember the last time I walked through a door, held it open for someone else, then beat them to the next door and held that one open as well.

    I call that over-achieving.

I remember holding the door for a bitchy feminist type who snapped at me "I have arms you know!"

I do the same thing. Messing with people is fun, usually unexpected on their part.

Yeah, that's just ridiculous. The only time I would that is someone would have difficulty otherwise (a delivery guy, parent with a stroller, old person with a cane or walker). Or if I was on a date and was trying too hard to impress my lady.:D
