South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who is seeking to become the first openly gay president of the United States, said in an interview that aired Sunday that it is statistically “almost certain” that the country has had previous gay presidents.

“I would imagine we’ve probably had excellent presidents who are gay, we just didn’t know which ones,” Buttigieg said during an interview on “Axios on HBO.”

Um, that’s not how statistics work. And people think this pipsqueak is bright. Haha.

That is totally how statistics work. They can prove anything, properly manipulated. Just to put it out there, James Buchanan was a bachelor President...who knows? *edit* though if true, Buchanan would hardly qualify as excellent...

Because gays think most people are secretly gay.
Because some of the most staunch conservative, anti-gay politicians have been discovered with gay skeletons in their closets? I can’t say for Presidents. Where I might disagree with Buttigieg about, might be about how excellent those particular people were who were secretly gay, but anti-gay. I’m not familiar with that many openly gay politicians, but I liked Barney Frank and was somewhat surprised to discover this LGBT list: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LGBT_members_of_the_United_States_Congress

Approximately 1 in 30 is gay.
Approximately 1 in 20 is bi-sexual (although this is less certain, less researched).

We have had 44 presidents (and 1 jerk), so statistically is excellent for one of them to be homosexual.
99% chance of at least one being bisexual assuming 5% of people are in that category.

0.97^45 is how you work out the odds for 45 people all not being gay. That gets you to ~25%.
That says there is a 2.17% chance that NONE all of the presidents not being homosexual.

Better bet is to say 1 was.

Edit: made logical error, fixed
