If anyone's opinion on interrogation and detention matters to me it's General Petraeus'. I'll take his word over anyone with a microphone and or a keyboard. With all the Olympic stuff going on I almost missed this.

I'd love to hear Cheney's response to Petraeus. Of course Cheney may contend that Petraeus simply believes it doesn't produce results doesn't make it so. Still, I'll take P's word on this.

Don't tell me everyone thinks he's a darling now just because he's saying torture doesn't work.

Set the way-back machine for 2007 in the PRSI.

How you came to this conclusion from a two-post thread is beyond me .

Wow, two posts in and you alread know what everyone thinks?

Rumor is Petraeus has presidential ambitions, and I always assumed he would run as an R, but from the sound of this interview he's not gonna make it past the teabaggers in the primary. Not advocating torture as effective and the best way to protect America doesn't sit well with those folks.

The dems like to go with the flow until a few years after the incident and then look back on the issue with 20/20 hindsight. Ask Pelosi.

Call it a pre-emptive strike on BS. :D Because I wouldn't want anyone to come out and say something positive about a decorated war general.

I am more than happy to praise Petraeus for adding his voice to those of us who decry all forms of torture as unethical.

LOL... nice CYA work. A pre-emptive strike on BS. That's a good one. I'll have to remember it.

You're quite correct; if I disagree with one position an individual holds, all other opinions they may hold are automatically wrong and there is no chance of common ground ever.

Exactly. My god- because we disagree with someone on one subject, we can't agree on another? What is that all about?

yeah, but wasn't that agreeing to disagree? Or disagreeing to agree? If you agree to disagree, are you really agreeing or disagreeing?? If everything InTheNet says is a lie but then he says he's lying, is he really telling the truth or is he lying? Illogical, illogical, Norman: coordinate!!

Never mind, I'll wait till it comes out in paperback... Meanwhile, I'm listening to Al Green.

Look, I'm no fan of General Petraeus, but I have to figure that maybe he's seen some of the results of "harsh interrogation" out in the field, which gives him a leg up on some of the armchair warriors in this forum.

Peraeus has been a pretty good general, but he's been taking some pressure from Obama to toe the line, so to speak. I'd take this statement with a grain of salt.

Do you feel that he took heat from Bush to toe the torture line too? Or are only Democrats capable of putting the squeeze on the military?

And if Petraeus is that easily bent to the will of the CinC, what does that say to you about his integrity?
