Hey guys so its been happening for awhile now, my phone gets pretty warm whenever I'm using it for more than 5 mins. I used to think it was because of games but now I've been doing nothing but browsing Internet and its pretty damn warm. It's only the bottom part and not the top, if that matters.

Is it defective and does it have anything to do with my terrible battery life? I've had it since Friday.

No it's not plugged in and no I save my porn watching for my 70" projector screen with Dolby surround 5.1 with visual and force feedback.

How fast does the battery drain? My 4S had a firmware problem that caused the processor to run constantly - drained the battery life REALLY fast and cause the phone to run really hot.

Take it to Apple and they'll replace it under warranty.

Mine was really warm this morning while I was browsing the internet, too. Also, the battery was draining like crazy. I restarted it and it is cooler now...maybe a runaway process? Anyway, I plan on letting the battery completely drain tonight (it is already at 28% now) and see if that helps tomorrow.

Yes my battery is terrible too I had to make another thread about it before: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1473450

If I take it to apple bad complain, will I get a refurb? This phone is less than a week old and it seems unfair that I get a refurb as a replacement...

Try a restore and setup as new.
    Might be a software issue.

If the phone is less than a week old you can likely request a new replacement. If they deny you one, whip out your receipt and kindly ask to return the device as it's not meeting your expectations. Turn around all dramatic like you're going to walk out then spin another 180 and say "Hi, I'm interested in purchasing a new iPhone 5"

You'll get a phone with a properly working processor. The 4S that I got as a replacement was flawless.

If you are replacing a 5, I doubt they even have many refurbs. Most likely will just give you one straight from the factory they hold back for things like this. My wife dropped her 5 a week after getting it - devastated her as she's always extremely careful. Accidents happen, we took it to Apple and paid the $229 for the replacement (which is flawless - don't know or care if its a refurb). They also gave us free applecare+ ;)

    ----------

Please don't do this.....as a former retail employee the worst thing you can do is act a fool in the middle of the store....

Apple will replace your device with one that works flawlessly and looks perfect, on the spot. I mean what's the problem with that?

Gotta say I'm in the same boat at OP. anything that required Internet connection and my phone heats up like a microwave.

Browsing it gets warm. Netflix or Hulu and it's hot to touch.

Metal back and glass/plastic back makes a difference with dispersing heat.
The back also acts as a heatsink.
Metal is a good conductor of heat.

Went today and talked to a genius, told them that my battery life is still terrible and that it gets hot. He was surprised when I said the hot part so this must not be a widespread issue.

Anyway I got a white box replacement that he said MIGHT have refurbished PARTS in it, but still mostly new. It also said it had 5 hours of usage since last full charge so idk! It looks flawless though and hopefully it fixes my problem...
