Photos app crashing on iOS 15.1

Good morning,

I have a bug on the photos app since I updated (yesterday) my iPhone 13 Pro on iOS 15.1.
Indeed, the photos app systematically crashes when, on a photo where there is a small blue question mark for an identified face, I tag the face with a name. I tried to reboot the phone but no change.
This bug did not occur on iOS 15.0.1 and 15.0.2.

Is anyone experiencing the same issue ?

No issue here. Was able to add names to faces without any issue doing so. No crashes.

Yes, I have the same problem on my iPhone 11 Pro with iOS 15.1. I have ~31K pics and vids with most being taken up by less than five faces.

If I navigate to the people with the most numerous faces, often the app will crash when trying to view the album for weeks at a time. This has been going on since at least iOS 13.

The best workaround I have found is to not confirm the AI suggestions and instead manually type in the name of who you're trying to assign a face to. Since the name already exists in the Photos app database, it will assign the photo to the group already associated with that person. The app will crash occasionally, but not as often as when you confirm the suggested person.

Hope that all makes sense. This is a frustrating bug that Apple hasn't addressed for at least two major iOS releases. It makes it hard to want to continue to use Apple's photo management when it crashes for weeks-long periods.

While I have the soapbox, it is also complete BS the Photos app has to rescan all the faces again because it can literally take 40-50 hours to get everything assigned to the right people again. This is a major drawback of having the AI live on the phone if the Photos people albums will not transfer over when you restore a new phone with an iCloud backup which has iCloud Photos enabled.
