Photos app - how to migrate from Mojave to Catalina

Want to move my photos app (390gb) from Mojave to a new iMac running the latest version of Catalina.

I know that in Catalina photos app uses a new naming convention for images so was wondering if there is any special I need to do after coping it to the new iMac?

Nothing special. Catalina will upgrade your library to its new format the first time you open it.

So it will be as easy as copying the Photos library from my backup drive to the correct folder on the new iMac? Assuming it will take some time to convert the whole database?

Yes, copy the library and then double click on the copy.
