Photos/videos shared through iMessage not displayed on new 15" Air

I must be missing something here. On the new 15" Air, when receiving an iMessage from friends that contain a photo or video, that photo/video is not displayed within iMessage on the new MacBook Air. While the photo/video does appear on my iPhone 13 mini. What I see on the new MacBook Air in iMessage is this sometimes (and clicking it does not reveal the photo that was sent):

Any suggestions on how to proceed? Thank you.
