Create Super-High-Quality 4:3HD Videos From Your Burst Mode Photosets

Photosets is a first of it's kind Action Photography app, intended to be used as a companion-app to the Burst mode feature of your built-in iOS Camera app.

We highly-recommend you check out our website for a much better presentation of the details.

The Poll is related to this, covered in more detail on our Tech Specs page:

"Sometime in 2016, Burst mode photo capture rates will very-likely reach 20 pps ... at which time, 4:3HD-8-20 and 4:3HD-12-20 will become viable options for a wide-variety of "mainstream" Action Photography applications"

The app will transition back to PAID in 1-3 hours ... we've just submitted the price-change via iTunes Connect.

Photosets transitioned to FREE at ~9:30pm last Friday (4/15), and is/was a Limited Time offering.

For those of you who haven't yet downloaded the app, we recommend you try now/soon while its still FREE.

Apple has been asleep at the wheel since the introduction of their 5s, wrt their Burst mode feature.

And they are just-now getting a BIG wakeup call, as word begins to spread about precisely-what the next-gen of Android phones will soon offer.

We can't divulge any details, but we want to encourage others to investigate the state of the market, and where it could (soon) be headed ... we refer to the market opportunity as "4:3HD Action Photography," but regardless of the name, it should be a much-more enjoyable topic to discuss than updated watch bands, connector options, camera bumps, etc.

We picked late-Sept for our Poll, as that gives Apple a chance to announce something new, with the introduction of their iPhone 7 family.

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hspm/id991627237?mt=8

--- and from our News page ---

    Photosets for Android

On May 5, 2016, we began porting Photosets to multiple, next-generation Android smartphones.

What makes this special, is that the "native" Burst mode photo capture rate (of each of these smartphones) "is significantly higher" than anything currently available (natively) in any smartphone camera !

The most-advanced of these next-generation smartphones will very-likely become the new Burst mode performance standard in the smartphone market.

And while it make take Apple sometime to wake up to this new reality ... don't be surprised if it kicks-off a "Burst mode Arms Race" in the mobile devices market.

Announcement of first availability will follow the manufacturer product announcements.

Note that while Apple mobile devices are, and will remain, our primary focus, we will now be devoting one-third of the company's resources into this R&D task.

Looking for additional data outside of Apple and Android ? ...

even though its not a direct comparison (to mobile devices), one could use the Burst mode specs of the recently-announced Canon EOS-1D X Mark II 20.2 Mpx DSLR camera, to calculate an additional "ballpark estimate" as to where the market may be headed.

When using Canon's (lower) 14 PPS Burst mode photo capture rate spec (i.e., with full AF + full Auto Exposure for every photo), it would suggest Apple "could potentially achieve" 23 PPS from devices with their 12.2 Mpx image sensor, and 35 PPS from devices with their 8 Mpx image sensor.

Lets be conservative, and assume Apple can achieve 80% of that ... then it becomes, 18 PPS with a 12.2 Mpx image sensor device, and 28 PPS with an 8 Mpx image sensor ...

no one should be surprised if Apple (soon) increases their Burst mode photo capture rate to (at least) 18 PPS !

Anybody know where we can find a really good Tim Cook bobblehead doll ?

We'd like to get one, and use it to showcase our technology.

BTW, Photosets v2.4 will be submitted to App Review later today; please see the link below (also re The Mouse & Grand Fenwick):

Photosets - The Burst App, wide-color* 4:3HD videos from your Burst photos

*currently in Development; photos with "wide-gamut" reds, oranges, yellows, yellow-greens, as well as violet-reds, will benefit the most. We believe the female swimsuit, active wear, & lingerie industries will immediately begin to focus on those colors soon-after Apple's annual September iPhone announcement, when this knowledge starts to become mainstream. Photosets - The Burst App will be ready !

We believe Wide Color Capture (WCC) will be supported only on the iPhone 7 and 7s, as well as the existing 9.7" iPad Pro.

We also believe Wide Color Display (WCD) support will be limited to those three mobile devices, plus the 21.5" 4K iMac, the 27" 5K iMac, and the yet to be announced stand-alone 27" 5K Display (which we expect to be announced coincident with the iPhone 7 and 7s, for obvious reasons).

Note also that the timing of all this ties-in nicely with the ramp-up of our 4:3HD News channel !

Update for June 30th, 2016: Our in-app Burst Camera addition is now in it's final stages of testing. As such, we plan to submit v2.5 to Apple App Review the week of July 5th !

We've crafted-up what we believe to be an innovative high-end Burst Camera; Burst photos are captured at the full image sensor resolution, downscaled to Super-High-Quality 4:3HD-6.2 via Lanczos5 interpolation ! ... and subsequently JPEG compressed.

Our Burst Camera supports four Photo Capture Rate options (10, 15, 20 and 30 photos per second), as well as four Timer Delay options (1, 3, 5 and 7 seconds).

We refer to our initial Burst Camera implementation as the "Tripod mode" of operation, and its just the first, of a number of modes we'll ultimately be supporting.

Note that our Tripod mode architecture supports a seamless transition to both 10-bit color and 10-bit wide color !

Starting in mid-September, and if using an appropriate Apple mobile device, photos captured with "wide-gamut" reds, oranges, yellows, yellow-greens, as well as red-violets, will significantly standout !

So much so, that we (boldly) predict that many Advertisers, and especially those in the female swimsuit, active wear, & lingerie industries, will immediately begin to focus on those colors soon-after Apple's annual September iPhone announcement, when this knowledge starts to become mainstream.

In other words, a multi-billion dollar market opportunity that kicks-off shortly-after the NFL season kicks-off, which by the way, also contributes to the opportunity, as >40% of all NFL team jerseys are outside of traditional sRGB colors ! ... its all a BIG deal, but few will appreciate it, until they see it.

We believe Wide Color Capture (WCC) will be supported only on the iPhone 7 and 7s, as well as on the existing 9.7" iPad Pro.

We also believe Wide Color Display (WCD)support will be limited to those three mobile devices, plus the 21.5" 4K iMac, the 27" 5K iMac, and the yet to be announced stand-alone 27" 5K Display (which we expect to be announced coincident with the iPhone 7 and 7s, for obvious reasons).

We further believe iOS 10.1, announced at the same time, will include native support for 10-bit WCC, as well as 10-bit WCD.

And yes, this would mean the existing 9.7" iPad Pro has a hidden feature, a 10-bit color display !

Note that the 4K and 5K iMacs support 10-bit WCD.

Consider it all to be this year's Live Photo-like surprise. In fact, the next-generation of Live Photos, out at the same time, will include support for both WCC & WCD.

From a technical perspective, supporting 10-bit color on iOS devices requires a pixel-buffer format change; still four bytes per pixel, but (soon) 4x more color resolution !

Photosets' "Pro Tools" IAP is FREE until v2.5.1 is approved ...

The following is an update we added to the homepage of our website earlier today:

Update for Saturday, August 6, 2016:
We simply wanted to point-out that there are MULTIPLE WAYS to "Save" inside the Photosets app, depending-upon whether you're wanting to save photoset-level Edit changes (e.g., Trim and/or Favorite photo selection changes), or simply wanting to Share or Export content, in this case, your choices are either Sharing (via AirDrop) a full photoset, or Sharing (here, usually via AirDrop) or Exporting (to a Photosets folder in your Photos app) a photo with it's companion (generated) video.

When using the in-app Edit tools (for Trimming and/or Favorite photo selection), you'll need to FIRST use the Apply button BEFORE using the Save button. This fairly-standard approach enables you to visually see what affect(s) the changes will have on the photoset, BEFORE they are permanently applied, and in the case of Trimming, its a destructive operation.

Please also note that the Pro Tools In-App Purchase simply enables the two highest photo capture rates (20 & 30 photos per second), for the v2.5 Burst Camera addition. Pro Tools offers NO other benefit, nor does it limit the non-Pro Tools version of the app in any other way. We believe that has been clearly spelled-out from the start, but apparently not everyone picked up on it, so we're doing it again here.

Also, if you have a few spare minutes, please Rate and/or Review our app. We've never pestered Users like so many apps do. In fact, we've even complained directly to Tim Cook about how disrespectful some other apps are wrt it, and requested that they be permanently removed and made an example of (how NOT to do something). Generally, we try to always stick to what we refer to as "the WhatsApp philosophy," not because of the financial success the company had, but rather, because they also went through hard (financial) times, and stuck to their principals throughout. We also made a new request to Tim Cook earlier today, describing how we would like to permanently ban certain Users from getting any of our future updates, and that its very-likely something ALL app developers would greatly appreciate. Or at the very least, to be able to submit a request to see if certain Apple User IDs are aligned with the competition.

In our own little way, we intend to establish a Leadership position, both in the markets we are addressing, and in the way we do things. One near-term event may even put us on the map, as we're now very close to opening-up a First Photoshoot Audition for the women here in San Diego, likely to be held at our Windansea beach, where our current set of screenshots were captured, and where we'll soon showcase the Wide (Gamut) Colors that we've been promoting since WWDC 2016 (see our website) ... very beautiful women, on the beach, showing off (in wide gamut colors) will shock alot of people, and in a very good way ! ... it will also be the kick-off of our new branding campaign "Shot wih Photosets" ... Tim may not be pleased, as we'll be stealing some of the "thunder" from Apple's iPhone 7 announcement, but we're sure many other will be !

We recommend you get it now while its still FREE:

    Update #2 for Tuesday, August 30, 2016:
Photosets for Android is in-deed the company's top priority ! ...
but, as we've stated before, we will continue to Refine and Enhance our iOS version to the best of our ability.

Update #1 for Tuesday, August 30, 2016: We plan to submit a v2.7 update to Apple App Review Wednesday morning, which will include an innovative Lossless Zoom feature ... whenever you enable this new (motion camera) Lossless Zoom feature, Photosets will produce "a second set" of photos, Zoomed-In with ZERO loss of quality, either at 1.4x (if captured with a 12 Mpx image sensor), or at 1.13x (if captured with an 8 Mpx image sensor) ... For both cases, the resolution of the Zoomed-In photos will either be 2880 x 2160 (if Landscape) or 2160 x 2880 (if Portrait) ... i.e., our 4:3HD-6.2 format ... And what make this extra special, is that you'll be able to Pair & Share any mix of Zoomed-In photos and full image sensor resolution photos, with their companion Slow Motion Video ! ... it also represents a nice step forward for us, towards our "synchronized multi-view" feature ! ... From a high-level perspective, Lossless Zoom simply crops a portion of each photo to our 4:3HD-6.2 format; for v2.7, its the center portion of each photo ... for a subsequent version of Photosets, the portion will be intelligently selected by our custom computer vision-based methods, which unfortunately, are not quite ready for inclusion in v2.7 ... Note that the 1.4x and 1.13x Zoom factors are simply our "Lossless" points for this feature. Photosets' camera pipeline architecture is fairly unique, in that we first store UN-compressed photos, then post-process, and finally store .jpg files. As such, we can do some cool things in Post that most existing photo apps simply can't, such as Lanczos5 resampling prior to compression. In other words, v2.7 will also support super-high-quality 2.8x and 2.27x Zoom-In ! ... Furthermore, whatever "optical zoom" level Apple announces on Sept 7th for their dual-lens camera iPhone 7 Plus, we'll quickly match it with a subsequent update ! ... We'll give you 90%+ of the quality, for $700 to $1K less ! !

Photosets Pro - Motion Photo Editor, an innovative Motion Photography & Motion Photoset app

Pair & Share your favorite Motion Photos with their companion Slow Motion Video

Ideal for Sports Highlights, Female Photo Modeling and Dynamic Nature Scenes

Update for Wednesday, December 28th: We want to Share something special about Photosets, that we discovered earier today ... it hit us this morning, that Photosets is perhaps NOT only the top "camera" app for the iPhone 7 Plus, but is perhaps also THE TOP APP across ALL categories for the iPhone 7 Plus ! ... we base this upon the simple fact that NO other app has leveraged the dual-lens camera and the 3 GB of DRAM of the iPhone 7 Plus, to the extent that Photosets has ! ... add-in Wide Color capture, and the tie-in to Wide Color Discovery™, and we're in-deed brewing something special here.

And here is the Kicker ... it is common knowledge that the iPhone 7 Plus is Apple's Flagship mobile device ... as such, it stands to reason that if Photosets is the Flagship app of Apple's Flagship mobile device, then Photosets is in-deed the Flagship app in the entire OS App Store !

You can tell us we're wrong, but we won't believe you ... we know what we have, and soon, we believe the entire world will catch on !

And all this comes from a 2-year-old La Jolla, CA startup that has NOT received even a single App Store recommendation from you know who !

How do you like them Apples ?

Photosets v2.8.4 is currently in Waiting for Review, and could be available for download later this week.

Update for Monday, January 16th: We wanted to publicly state that we've intentionally removed most of the text describing Photosets on the iOS App Store ... this was a strategic move on our part, to distance ourselves & Photosets from the iOS App Store ... we are convined that for Photosets to succeed, this website must be built-up and it must become the ONLY source of information for everything that we do .. that way, Google's search engine could potentially assist Photosets in a way that the iOS App Store never did ... and if an alternative to the iOS App Store soon emerges, we'll be much-better positioned to immediately take advantage of it ... App Discovery is a hugh challenge for any app, and especially for one such as Photosets that has required considerable engineering time to develop ... so much so, that it has left little time for other important things, such as always having proper screenshots readily available ... which by the way, leads to us to the next subject of this Update.

We are now working on a new set of creative & artistic screenshots, that leverages the skill, knowledge & (most-importantly) insight we've gained while working on wide color since June 2016 ... we believe these new screenshots will be perceived as both unique & innovative, but more than anything, they will be seen as Educational ... they are also very-likely something nobody else has ever even thought of ! ... its also whats holding-up Photosets v2.8.4 ... specifically, we won't submit v2.8.4 to Apple App Review until these new educational screenshots are good & ready ... could be days, could be weeks.

Our plan is to showcase these new screenshots ON THIS WEBSITE before submitting v2.8.4 to Apple App Review ... furthermore, we'll also be showcasing every new feature & capability that we add-into Photosets ON THIS WEBSITE, BEFORE submitting the relevant app updates to Apple App Review ... our goal is to completely remove the iOS App Store from our Business Equation ... the iOS App Store simply has NOT worked for us & Photosets ... however, until an alternative to the iOS App Store emerges, we'll need to do it "one step at a time".

We estimate that 85% of the iOS App Store revenue goes to games, 10% goes to streaming media apps, and that the remaining 5% goes to everything else ! ... if Apple we're to allow iOS app sales outside of their iOS App Store, it could (potentially) trigger a whole new wave of innovation in App Development ... its extremely puzzling to us that Apple doesn't even try to fix the problem ... the iOS App Store "started disintegrating" somewhere in the 2011-2012 timeframe ... its now 2017 and they've done nothing to fix it ! ... you want proof that Apple Upper Mgmt is "In Over Their Heads" ... we present to you the iOS App Store ... Apple's Board deserves half the blame... things might be different today if at least one of Apple's Board members had, at least at one time, been working as an Electrical Engineer or as a Software Developer, or better yet, both.

We estimate Apple has been losing, and continues to lose, somewhere betwen $1B USD and $10B USD per month, simply because they Dropped the Ball with the Roll Out of Wide Color, the ONLY differentiated product attribute of the iPhone 7 family (relative to other smartphones) ... and here is the really crazy part, NOT a single Financial Analyst who covers Apple has picked up on this ! ... and specifically, Apple could have sold significantly more of their highest-end iPhones if they had properly Rolled-Out Wide Color ... companies such as yours truely, Cosmosent Labs, Inc., get screwed because someone or someones at Apple didn't Do Their Job, something that is VERY BIG in American Football, but apparently NOT in Apple's Marketing Dept ! ... even if Apple's Upper Mgmt was Clueless about the value of Wide Color, Apple's Marketing Dept should NOT have been !

Ideally, Apple themselves would soon promote "a compromise iOS App Store solution," that is half-way between the existing iOS App Store, and how Mac App Developers currently sell their apps on their own websites ... specifically here, 1.) membership as an App Developer would still be required, 2.) Apple's cut would be reduced to 15%, and it would be across the board (No difference for Subs), 3.) Apple would still handle the financial transactions of it, 4.) it would NOT be Open to Games or Streaming Media apps, and 5.) would ONLY be open to Paid apps ... FREE apps would & should NOT be allowed to participate under this structure ... also, any FREE app that offerred IAPs should NOT be allowed to participate ... one of the primary goals of all this is to RESET customer price expectations, so that App Developers with credible apps can once again make a proper living off their efforts ... the MIN price for each app would be set at $0.99 USD, and of course, all apps could & should offer IAPs in addition to that ... and because of industry activity for an alternative to the iOS App Store, Apple needs to either do something like this soon, or else risk losing control of the entire situation.

This proposed solution would address "the remaining 5%" mentioned above.

9PM Update for Friday, May 12th: We're extremely excited to announce today that we've reached a Key Manufacturing Partner Milestone for our first-ever Cosmosent-designed mobile device, "Photosets 1,"which we have NOT divulged to the public prior to today ... if you read the Update at the top of our iOS App Store "Description," you'll very-likely be able to figure-out what type of product we're talking about ... word is already leaking-out in certain Tech Circles, so it's just a matter of time before we'll have to publicly disclose it all ... the best word to describe it is "Revolutionary" ... what we can tell you today, is that we're leveraging Photosets' Upgrade To Pro capabilities, and will be offering that in "Photosets 1," a $249 4.33" 1080p bezel-free Cosmosent mobile device ! ... NOT a smartphone, a companion to a smartphone, AND an entirely new class of device, purpose-built for mobile Motion Photography !

1PM Update for Tuesday, May 16th: We wanted to make one point crystal clear to everyone ... Apple really gave us NO choice, but to pivot to a custom mobile device version of our Photosets mobile app, which we refer to as "Photosets 1" ... there we're two primary reasons: 1.) Apple has a "Stranglehold on App Discovery," and 2.) the iOS App Store Search & Rankings structure is completely broken ... our plan is to officially introduce Photosets 1 in late-August ... projected pricing is $249, for the mobile industry's first-ever "Social Motion Photography" mobile device ! ... think of it as simply a port of our existing Photosets mobile app, to a dedicated mobile device, with cherry-picked hardware components by a group of Electrical Engineers, who fantasize about Porsche's new 911 GT3 on almost a daily basis.

7PM Update for Tuesday, May 30th: Now that v2.9.10 is Out the Door and Available for Download, we've decided to devote the remainder of this week to helping educate our Users about Photosets' relatively-new "Photosets TV" feature ... as many of you have probably already figured-out, we use the name "Photosets TV" to describe both a Feature of Photosets, as well as a FREE IAP, that offers a Lite version of the Photosets TV capabilities included with Upgrade To Pro (see the table at the top of our website's Home page).

In simple terms, Photosets TV enables you to craft Artistic & Creative multi-photoset videos ... the most-important aspect of crafting a Photosets TV video is the Order you select (for your photosets) ... think of it as your "Photoset Playlist" ... there are also two Limiters involved, one that governs the number of photosets, and one that governs the total number of photos per video (see the table at the top of our website's Home page).

Photosets : Camera & Video Stories Maker

3PM (California-time) Update for Wednesday, June 21st: Cosmosent Inc., Labs, is today announcing that "Photosets 1," the mobile-industry's first-ever Social Motion Photography mobile device is now the company's top priority ... Photosets 1, a port of our existing Photosets mobile app to custom hardware in a 4.33" slim-bezel 1080p chassis, will be available either late-3Q17 or early-4Q17 ... projected pricing is $299 USD ... Photosets 1 is NOT a smartphone ... it's a companion to a smartphone, for those into Advanced, Innovative & High-Performance Photography !

Just like Photosets is a First of It's Kind mobile app, you can think of Photosets 1 as a First of It's Kind mobile device ! ... and here, Photosets 1 won't be hindered by the DRAM limitations of (most) existing mobile devices ! ... read that to mean, 2 GB of DRAM doesn't cut it in the world of high-performance camera capture !
v1.0 was approved June 10, 2015, and there have now been 45 total app approvals by Apple App Review, with each adding some mix of Enhancements, Refinements and Bug Fixes.

Pushing the Performance Boundaries of what's possible with Apple (& soon also Android) mobile devices !

8 PM (San Diego-time) Update for Friday, August 25th:

Cosmosent Labs, Inc., developer of the Photosets Smart Camera, is today make TWO EXTREMELY BIG announcements:

1.) Photosets for iOS "v3.0" will be submitted to Apple App Review (as early as) late-Sunday,

2.) Photosets for Android "v1.0" will become available either just-before or just-after the Labor Day weekend.

And of course, the BIG feature for each is LiveColor™ Discovery !

For those of you who are UN-aware, Photosets' 3-year R&D anniversary is just-after the Labor Day weekend ... the significance of this should NOT be under-estimated by anyone ... many (personal) sacrifices were made along the way ... we plan to kick some serious Apple butt in the month of September ! ... specifically, at launch, Photosets for Android will be a 100% FREE app !

Note that 10-bit LiveColor Discovery won't become available (on the iOS side) until iOS 11.1 becomes available.

9 PM (San Diego-time) update for Friday, September 1st: On September 12th, Apple is going to introduce iOS 11.1 to the world, effectively divulging a secret that some of of us have been planning for & working towards since March, 10-bit Wide Color capture & display !

It's NOT Rocket Science, but its certainly been Off the Radar of most when it absolutely should NOT be ... that's what happens when there is a Sheep / Herd mentaility out there ... fortunately, we just ignore it.

We believe it's now time to Ratchet Up the internet wrt to HEIF and HEVC, and in particular wrt 10-bit Wide Color, the real reason Apple has been promoting HEVC adoption.

As many know, JPEG compression has served the internet well since the early 1990s ... however, JPEG adoption never progressed past 8-bit color ... with the push towards Wide Color Gamuts over the past few years, this created a problem, as the 8-bits per color (Red, Green, Blue), we're now covering more space (color space, to be exact), meaning their capture accuracy had been reduced, AND subtle changes in color (in the photo or video subject) would result in Banding.

Both are commonly-known problems of transitioning to a Wider Gamut, without FIRST transitioning to a deeper color depth (e.g., 10 bits per color, vs 8 bits per color).

    HEVC to the Rescue !

It is our very strong opinion that Apple didn't adopt HEVC (with iOS 11) simply because of it's more-advanced compression algorithm (vs. JPEG and H.264), but rather, because of it's support for 10-bit color ! ... we believe the reduction in file sizes (& bandwidth) was no more than 50% of the reason for the change.

Looking back on it now, it's easy for us to say that Apple screwed-up when they made the transition to Display P3 with the iPhone 7 & 7 Plus, BEFORE adopting HEVC (and it's 10-bit color support) ... we believe they know they screwed up, and it is for this Reason that they have never once promoted Display P3 since last September !

Where does Apple's so-called Intelligent 10-bit Dithering Fit In ?

Content captured at 10-bit color won't always be displayed on 10-bit color displays ... as such, Apple needs a way to quickly mimic a 10-bit display on an 8-bit display ... what we believe they've done, is ALOT of experiments in the Linear Display P3 space, to figure-out which colors (at 10 bits) fall into certain buckets (at 8 bits), and have generated a Gamma'd Lookup Table from their work, that will enable them to perform the so-called Intelligent Dithering in the gamma domain ... NOT Rocket Science, but it does take time running all the experiments & figuring-out the proper Lookup Table values.

At Apple's WWDC in June, Apple engineers briefly mentioned 10-bit Intelligent Dithering, which effectively tip'd their hand (to us, at least) ... that's when we knew 10-bit capture was coming down the pipe. ! ... we actually thought & predicted it would happen last year, but it obviously didn't ... ONE BIG DIFFERENCE between last year and this year, Photosets is (now) Ready to capitalize on it all ! ... and we're NOT just talking some iOS App Store success, we intend to Leapfrog both Instagram & Snapchat in enthusiasm !

If we can get the necessary funding, we intend to craft a very nice 10-bit Wide Color Social Network ! ... "Photosets Live" will be a BIG part of it (see below).
If you can, remember this key point, HEIF (the container format) with HEVC-encoded 10-bit Wide Color photos will steal the show on September 12th, and you heard it here first !

We're gonna now post this on macrumors.com & send it to select Bloggers.
