I just finished installing a new Intel 160GB SSD on my 17" unibody.
I first made a single partition, and then installed OS Snow leopard.
Then, I recovered my settings from Time machine, but had to make
a new account, approx 80GB worth.
I deleted the temporary account that was created when I installed the OS.

Now, however, my brand new 160GB SSD has only 8GB of free space.

What to do? Am I speaking as confusing as I feel confused?

    cheers,
    P

BTW: I tried Omnisweep and it could only find the 80 GB of my present account.

    Disc repair, however, tells me:

    Capasity : 159,7 GB (159*697*911*808 byte)
Format : Mac OS Extended (journalized)
    Available : 11,48 GB (11*478*646*784 byte)
    Used : 148,22 GB (148*219*265*024 byte)

Try clean installs. I don't really use Time Machine or Migration Asisstant. Personally, I find it cumbersome more so than simply using an external HD to backup.

Unfortunately I can't remember the exact details, but I seem to remember time machine saving information from the old backup on occasion. Perhaps this is what happened?

As suggested, start with a fresh install. Also note that you dont want to repeat this 80GB+ install/restore cycles too much with an SSD working under OS X without TRIM.

    Good luck!
