    Title says it all.

    From the article:

The fact of the matter is, Obama has declared himself to be a Christian, time and time again. There is abundant proof of this available. And yet, a large minority of Americans are unable to accept this. I have to admit I'm baffled.

I think the story should read more like "1 in 5 Americans wish Obama was a Muslim so they could smear him more easily".

I'd like to see a poll asking how many Americans don't give a crap what religion the president is. I know I don't.

My own guess is Obama is an agnostic or atheist who gives just enough lip-service to Christianity to keep the idiots who care about such things at bay.

For me, the substance of the matter is less relevant than the fact that a large numer of people have chosen to perpetuate this bizarre accusation in the face of absolutely zero facts.

It's all about ignorance and bigotry.

Obama's probably more "Christian" than most of the teabaggers and ALL of the republican party.

I still maintain that his professed religion is far, far, less important than the fact that people refuse to believe a simple statement he made about himself.

If Obama were asked what his favorite color was, those same 18% of Americans would probably refuse to believe whatever he answered. Words fail me when trying to describe such people.

Gotta call a spade a spade.

EDIT: I had a reading comprehension FAIL.

I'm having a good day, therefore a little kindness.

And if he said his favorite color was red, he would be accused of being racist against white people and a communist.

I don't care what the president's religion may be. However, the opinions of stupid people matter, especially when you're talking about voters.

I think around 1 in 5 Americans approved of the job Dubya was doing when he left office. This is probably the same 1 in 5 Americans.

The next time I'm in a random group of five, I think my secret game will be to find out which one thinks Obama is a Muslim. :D

And this is after all the controversy over the preacher at the church he was known to attend. If Obama came out against drunk driving, I'm sure the right would somehow turn it into him wanting to bring back prohibition.

A lot of people dislike Obama's politics. A lot of people even hate him personally. But this is just farce. American politics are so incredibly polarized at the moment, the only theme seems to be knee-jerk opposition to everything your opponents say or do, regardless of the actual content. Content, issues, real things - these have long since become irrelevant.
