Out of several hundred iPhone users in my department at work, less than a dozen own an Apple Watch.

The general consensus is it's for gadget lovers that don't mind the inconvenience of another device to charge, to update, to deal with issues they have.

I tried a nice Stainless Steel model at launch, but it wasn't exciting or useful enough to justify the extra work it requires. Returning it to Apple was a huge relief.

Wanted a first series. Couldn't get one for weeks after release here. Ended up going FitBit.
Tried this week to get a series 2. Same story. Seriously Apple, if you release a product make sure stock is available! With a 4 week delay on stock, I will only buy in store when I can try on, I now have 4 weeks to once again find another option. Maybe different phone as well. Already replaced my MacBook pro top spec with a PC for far less money.
Disappointing as I used to just update to the newest Apple products. Not innovative enough to justify highest prices.

Can't remember how long ago I stopped trying to count.

It was up to six at work by the time I retired; I'm pretty sure it's gone up since then. I saw several of them every day at the code school I attended this summer.

If I were to count the ones I see when I get out of the house, I'd be adding several to the tally every day.

I only know one person that owns an Apple Watch besides me that I would consider a friend or close. However, I have probably seen close to 75-100 out and about. Was just out to dinner in Cape Cod a few days ago and saw 12+ apple watches at a fancy restaurant along with me out on the patio having dinner. I was really surprised actually.

They are still rare sight where I live and I haven't see many people wearing them.

I'm the first Apple Watch owner in my circle of friends and I've only had mine for two weeks.

Total of three that are close friends or family. Plus, two other acquaintances. Still very in my area. Most times when I use the AW for Apple Pay, cashiers are a little surprised, like they have not seen it before.

An island in the Andaman Sea.
So, after a day and 72 votes, 13 (about 18%) of respondents don't own an  WATCH, and more than 1/3 of them don't know anyone else who owns one. Another 13 are unique among their acquaintances in being  WATCH owners. The majority of the respondents, 41 (about 58%) own one, and know at least one other  WATCH owner, but only 5 (about 7%) know a lot of people who own one.

An interesting range of posts, with some spotting the  WATCH quite a bit when out and about, but it is still a rare sight for others. I have yet to see one in the wild, though a non-watch wearer since I chucked a waterproof watch that kept water in (but not out) over 30 years ago, I am not a the keenest observer of folks' wrist wear.

You seem to be overworked easily.

It would be easier to interpret in you could provide a range (in absolute numbers) for couple, few and a lot.

After a couple of days and 99 votes…..

A pattern seems to have been established, steady on about 18% of respondents who don't own an  WATCH, and 6% who don't know anybody who owns one. There is just one  WATCH-less hold out living among a multitude of owners. 20% are unique among their acquaintances in owning one. However it seems that  WATCH owners tend to hang together, with about 60% knowing other owners.

Thanks for a lot of interesting comments. No thanks for the couple of unsolicited pieces of advice.

Statistics without numbers... ok then.

Have been busy so have not checked this thread out for a bit…..

124 people have voted for a hoot, but there is still the odd confused pedant ready to offer advice. If folks don't like how others choose to word and conduct a poll, perhaps they should start their own.

At this stage it is roughly a four way split:
  • about 22.5% of respondents don't own an  WATCH
    • of whom about a quarter don't know anyone who owns one
  • 21% are unique among their acquaintances in owning one
  • 24.2% own one know one and know just one other with one
  • 32.3% own an  WATCH and know at least a few others with one.
Poll closes in three days, though can be reopened if there is enough interest, and pedants don't object.

My wife and I would each own one, if we could buy one.

It is still beyond my ability to understand how with the original release and the second release of the Apple Watch you can't actually buy one. I got so irritated with the first release that I ultimately never purchased one. I am getting close to feeling the same way with this release.

I've always known someone who owned one, ever since AW1 because my husband and I got ours at the same time and 2 out of 3 of our kids got one within a month or so of when we got ours.

I have at least a dozen friends who own them (possibly more), and I see someone wearing one pretty much every time I go out of the house.

If that's how you define "a lot" then I chose correctly in your poll.

Why can't you buy one? Do you not have an Apple store or a Best Buy near you?

Um, because they aren't in stock anywhere.
