hi - i use mail with dot mac configured as POP. I want to set it up as IMAP. I understand i need to set up a new account , then disable the POP.

so I have the new IMAP account set up. and a LOT of emails to move to the server so they are accessible. everything is in folders. and subfolders. very pre-spotlight/google search days mentality.

anyway, when i drag folders, or individual emails i get an error m "The IMAP command “APPEND” (to INBOX) failed with server error: Message contains invalid header." The messages won't copy.

googling this brings up a lot of unix i don't understand.

has anyone else encountered this?

i suppose there's another way to look at it. all my mail is in folders "on my mac" so it will stay there after i disable pop. thus if i don't want it accessible via IMAP i could just leave it - my inbox, sent mail and drafts would have to be moved to local folders.

after this, if i understand this correctly, i could use IMAP, i would see my old messages in Mail, they just would not be accessible to my iphone. is that correct?

i have over 20k messages. i would say half i could archive and forget about, but the other half i would like to import to IMAP if possible.

so after all that, does anyone know what's going on with this error.
thanks, eric
