iPod touch Portrait rotation doesn't work

I have the 3rd gen iPod touch running iOS 4.0 and I just tried playing Need for Speed but I couldn't steer. The portrait orientation isn't working for some reason. I have tried turning it off and on again but that didn't help. I checked out some photos and the portrait orientation won't change when I put the iPod on its side, I watched a video using the youtube app and it wouldn't change either. No, I do not have the screen orientation locked. Any suggestions on what I can do? There is no apple store in my province so that is not an option. I bought it last November.
