Posts removed without reason?

Is there not anyway that a poster can find out why his or her post was deemed not fit for public consumation? Some things I can understand just getting removed outright, porn, mass profanity, etc, but others I don't understand why a post would be removed. As such, and having been somebody that's had one or more posts removed, is there no way that the board can't inform me why a post was removed?

Hey, I feel you. I just had a bunch of posts removed. I was informed that my posts weren't adding to the conversations or something. I thought about it and I could see why a couple of them where deleted, but I couldn't justify why the rest of them where. I think it is depends on the moderator and what they deem fit for the forum. I've definitely seen some nonsensical posts that seem to be ignored and not deleted. You've just got to live with it. Its the opinion of the moderator. And as you know, opinions by definition are subjective.

True, but if a moderator's opinion is between me and getting banned, it would really be nice if I could get some feedback on why they're removing posts (much less which moderator is yanking my posts). After all, when you report a bad post, you're suppose to say what you find offensive about it. I'm just asking for the same when a moderator removes one (and having that response available to the original poster to see).

I'm just trying to stay within the rules here, and if people are yanking posts just because they didn't like the slant of something I posted, I need to know that so I don't 'offend' anybody.

Some people are just plain annoying, it's unfortunate that's not against the rules.

You can always check out the Rules and the Site New Forums for some discussions on the rules.

In general -- if you have a problem with the way the moderators have been treating your posts -- please use the PM system, otherwise people that go nuts in threads like these don't last long.

EDIT -- IF somebody complains about your post a mod will most likely edit, or delete your post if they want to save the thread. Or toss the entire thread in the wasteland if it's pointless from post #1.

we'll never remove posts due to a 'slant' as you called it - you're entitled to your opinions, and as long as they don't break the rules of the site, you're welcome to post them. However - if your posts that you're referring to were made in a 'spamming' style, i.e. 40+ posts in 40 minutes across multiple forums in an effort to hit the 500 posts mark and get an avatar (not to name names) then we tend to notice those things. ESPECIALLY when it's been reported by other members of the boards. Our forums exist for posting - but in order to keep the peace and provide something worth reading other than "oh yeah, me too" type of posts, we police them.

If you lost some, then sorry - but as the FAQ states, if you stop and think to yourself "is what I'm doing irritating to other people" and the answer is "yes" then you shouldn't be doing it, and if you do it anyway, expect the posts to magically go away.

A) I don't know which moderator yanked the post, so I don't know which one to PM
B) I'm not trying to go nuts here, just asking/requesting that an 'auto-notify of why post was deleted' be implemented if possible
C) I'd be willing to take a PM if somebody really dislikes what I posted, after all I am trying to stay within the rules as I understand them.
D) I'm never posting to the political forums here ever again; in my personal opinion they're highly bias one way and I'll do nothing but get myself in trouble if I post to them (disclaimer) (and no, I'm not stereotyping anyone, or slamming anyone, just stating my opinion) (/disclaimer)

If I just started saying (example) that everything you (Sun Baked) post was trolling, and therefore all your posts should go away, that would be one thing (/example). I'm almost to the point that I might as well not post anything, ever again, because every time I do, I feel somebody is going to yank my post and not tell me why.

Is it too much to ask?

First off, spamming is stupid. I deal with enuf spam email, why would I want to read thru it here?

As I recall (and you can check the thread here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/87792/) (thread is on lack of a new macpoll). I simply came up with an in-thread poll asking people about the US election. In my opinion it was obviously a silly poll, as most of the in-thread polls have been.

In any case, reverting back to the original topic of this thread, is it possible, or even a resonable request that when a post magically goes 'poof' to have the poster informed of the reason?

Well in that case, most everything in the political section is offensive to me, I just don't have time to read thru all the posts and say which ones are offensive to me (hence the reason I'm just going to ignore the whole section)

Sam Dweck -- *cough* err, excuse me.

I've seen threads get eliminated from the face (and rear) of the forums... like the "Yo, (N-word) my name is steve jobs" (in all caps) thread. Too bad I didn't get to read the posts! But I think that by keeping the threads in the Wasteland, it can serve a respectful purpose: They are perfect examples of how not to act on the forums. So, keep them there for public viewing, especially if the examples are funny.

Otherwise, I have seen posts and threads suddenly removed, but I just don't see how the mods can maintain a forum and explain on every instance why this motive or that motive.

If you see useless posts, you should report them, not just live with them. It's not guaranteed that the moderator will take action but at least, someone will look at the post in question. For obvious reasons, one or two word posts cannot add use information to a thread, but add to a post count (in most forums) and should be excised. It is unlikely that any group of moderators will see them all, especially with fast moving rumour threads, so your participation makes for a better environment and deletions save on storage.

No, I have no desire to be a moderator. I was already a operator on the IRC channel when it went 24/7 and stopped that after a few months.

As for autoresponders, that won't happen. If a thread gets reported and we delete it, it stays in the database (usually) so we have evidence. So in the future, just ask us.

Not a problem...considering the number of posts we have to delete a week, I'm surprised this hasn't come up.

As for waiting 13 posts to get an answer....we don't look at every thread - one reason why contacting us directly with issues sometimes works better.
