This is certainly an embarrassment for Apple. Unless they have a software update to fix this, they should have just omitted the HR feature. No one will were these just to see their HR at a glance on a machine it may or may not connect to. SMH.
I honestly wasn’t intrigued by the feature and likely wouldn’t have used it anyway. Having owned the prior version, I’m waiting a while to see if there are any issues for users that pop up down the road, six months or so from now. Like the charging/drain issue that rightly should have just put me off Beats products entirely. So I can honestly say, I’m not surprised by this revelation.

I don’t get it. At first you would think it’s a hardware limitation but then they say you can do it on android
I belive the simultaneous monitoring of HR while playing music isn't working on either platform.

They only said that reliable HR monitoring worked on Android "after failing to get reliable heart rate data on iOS."

But as far as both functions simultaneously, that's not working on either iOS or Android.

No longer having a product experience obsessed CEO

Of course, Tim has claimed he uses every Apple product, every single day

This clip at 1:04 has always stood out to me bc it honestly looks like the first time Tim Cook has seen the Mac Pro by the way Ive is explaining it to him.

So this is what happens when a corporation gets so massive and so complacent they think they can bring out sub par products, *shrug* "Who cares? They'll still buy it."

Certainly looks like it.

Yes, we're fully in the Apple Defense Force phase where, if something doesn't work right, "just don't use it that way... Apple did nothing wrong"

Or “just buy an Apple Watch for heart rate.”

It does seem like the goal is to get you to "have to buy everything"

With where tech is now, and with what I've seen out of "junk sellers" on AliExpress, it seems like if the desire were there we could have fitness focused AirPods with onboard music/storage (sync an Apple Music playlist to it), for instance.

That would be a phenomenal product for that use case

But ... we can't have that because that user is supposed to buy a Watch .. or always run with their iPhone

Just get an Apple Watch. Idk why anyone would want their headphones to take their heart rate then display in on some gym equipment. My watch takes my HR, tracks it, shares it with me privately..
Offer a quick glance of heart rate during using the gym equipment so you have some idea how well your training goes in terms of cardio fitness. You might not want to use it publicly but for folks having gym equipment at home this could be neat.

Are you ***** kidding me? That was the only use case I cared about (the latest Techogym equipment doesn't let you use a lot of the programs w/o a connected HR monitor... and a chest strap is a bit of a PITA).

As my last long time Apple employee friend said after they left a few years ago "The bozos have entered the building"

Are the Android phones able to do both music and heart rate data by pairing with both the Powerbeats and the gym equipment so that all data and streaming are routed through the phone (vs the Powerbeats headphones themselves pairing with both the Android and gym equipment)? If so, I imagine iPhone may be able to add that option via software.
