I plug the external devices in while the computer is on and not sleeping. Then I close the lid and move the mouse. Wakes up every time. Are you doing it any different?

First time I had it sleeping already and plugged it in. I just tried your method and it makes it go to sleep.

Waiiiiiit, you plugged your mouse and keyboard in while it was open and now it goes to sleep? It shouldn't do that, it should just enable you to use them.

No I tired closing the lid after trying his method and it still went to sleep.

And did you then use the mouse/keyboard and it wake up?
I'm not sure all Mac portables have the "run shut" feature, something to do with heat dissipation I think.

More details about Mac model & mouse/kb model would be useful!

Its not an apple wireless mouse/keyboard dont think thats a problem

I have a new powerbook well bought in Auguest. Os x 10.4.3

No idea, it should work fine. I've had my 12" PB hooked up with external mouse/keyboard and monitor and it worked great. Actually, it would wake up with just plugging in the mouse and clicking the button.
