This may have been mentioned already... but...

Does anyone else find it odd that if you go to the apple store right now and choose a dual g5 it says 10-15 business days.... while my order for a Dual G5 that was made in July is still slated for Oct9th? More than 40 days away still...

What's up with that? I should just cancel and re-order by this logic...

No way, I wouldn't reorder if I were you. That 10-15 days is still an estimate, just as "shipping in August" was. Reorder now & you'll be at the end of the line.

Yes I noticed that too. I added all three models to my cart this morning--the DP is 10-15 days. It's all very confusing.

I've got a feeling that a lot of people will get their orders shipped sooner than they think. And *no*, calling to cancel your order and reordering it would probably not be a good idea.

EDIT:

It might also be of some interest that if you build a CTO machine (like add the 9800 card, or just something that wouldn't make it a 'stock' machine), it still says 10-15 days. I think that the 10-15 days estimation they show you BEFORE you order is there to hopefully get you to buy a machine, only to be told later, 'sorry, it's going to be a bit longer than we figured.' I hope Apple wouldn't do something like that, but it's the only thing that makes sense to me right now...

I'm going to mention something real quick that I've said already. I got the letter that all of you got about the delay in shipping. It specifically mentioned the dual 2.0 computers. But I had a 1.8 on order. I replied to the email and asked about it. I got a letter yesterday morning saying it would be 7-10 days before mine went out. Well, it turns out they should have said 7-10 hours. I got a letter confirming shipment of the computer later that day. So, Apple's continued chaos just might mean that all of you will be shipped you computers next week. But then again this whole thing about VT ordering all of those duals will push you all's computers back and not mine.

I've been waiting for everythin announced for a date about twice as long as expected - so why should the G5 make an exception?

It's strange though, because it's actually the worst thing that can happn to a company - not beeing able to deliver ordered goods.

I guess anyone who was about to switch, from apple to Wintel - is just beeing pushed over by this kind of sales policy.

Anyway, I didn't order a g5, and am happyly not waiting for delivery. It's so satisfying ;)

The delivery date is exactly as Apple said it was back in June. Nothing has changed since and therefore I don't understand your complaint. Personally, I can't wait to get rid of my Windows P.O.S. Don't even know why I bothered in the first place to use such a worthless OS.

Well, all I can say is I can't wait for tomorrow to be over, for then it will be the 2nd, the date my DP is supposedly shipping. 11pm EST right now on Sunday--my ship date still hasn't changed, and I haven't received a letter from Apple. I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)

1.8 in stock

Hi all.

New to this group but have been following the ebb and flow.

The Apple Store NY called me yesterday to tell the 1.8GHZ I put on a waiting list is in stock and ready for me to pick! Too bad I decided to get the Dual or else I would've been cruising on the 1.8 right now.

The confusing part is I only put my name down on the waiting list only 6 days ago after returing a 1 GHZ TiBook.

Here's my thoughts on this:
1. Alot of people changed their mind on the 1.8
2. Orders in front of me were cancelled for whatever reason
3. The Apple Store I went to is in the Twilight Zone

Good luck...

Delivery date 10-15 days on Dual G5's!!!

I orderded my Dual G5 on Aug 22 and my estimated date still says 10/14. I called up the apple store where I also have my name on a waiting list and they have no information on arrival dates. I went online and placed an order just to see what the date would be and it is now saying 10-15 days. I then called the online store and asked the sales rep to put an order through just to see when it would ship and he said 10-15 days as well which leads me to believe that the Dual G-5's will all be shipped in about 2 weeks or less so I think its time to get that surge protector out and get ready.

Europe first??

According to hardmac.com (english version of macbidouille.com), the G5 could be delivered first in Europe.... as Apple Assembly Line in Corck (Ireland) is designed for PowerMac.
let's wait and see

I'm trying to make sense of all of that too.... I hope everyone gets there computer soon and sooner than they expected. However...I placed an order back on 24 June 0840PST and have an on or before 22 September Est. Ship date If you go to the Apple store now and take a stock dual or config it as I did with Blutetooth and a ATI 9800 the ship date is the same. Now how can this be? If they are having problems due to demand how can the ship dates be the same? There are people who have 2 September ship dates who are hopeful they will have thier computers shipped. I hope they do. But what I got for my 29 September ship date was the infamous email sent forty three minutes before midnight turning my G5 into a pumpkin.

Duals showing 10-15 bus. days in US Apple Store

I don't know how you guys will like this:

Many people who had their orders delayed got a notice that it would ship within 10-15 business days.

If you put in an order for a dual-2.0GHz G5, non-BTO configuration, you are given 10-15 business days estimated shipping time. If you try to go for a BTO configuration (in my case, adding a Radeon 9800), it's still 10-15 business days.

Let's hope the pre-orders go out before the newly-placed orders!

But if you try to order through the government "store" at apple.com, the wait is listed at 4-6 weeks for an identical machine.

Interesting. I'm Europe based (edu cust) and I just got off the phone to Apple, they told me it should be shipping "next week". Now the guy didn't come back with this info immediately. He had to put me on hold and presumably talk to some one. This implies that orders are still not on track and something is causing problems that result in scheduling being handled by a human.

I hope you guys who got a date of sep 2 are having more luck!

Personally, at the moment, the Apple response feels like a stalling tactic IMHO.

Don't get me wrong. I more than understand that this is a new product and there are likely to be teething problems which I am more than willing to put up with. What I don't like is being kept in the dark. If there's some sort of production problem Apple should come out in the open. I think they'd get a lot more sympathy than they may think!

OK guys, 10:30 AM EST on the day my order is slated to ship (STILL says "On or Before 9/2/03"). Things could get exciting :)

Well I emailed Apple asking if any configuration changes would speed up my order. I didn't really get an answer to that but the rep said they're building G5's 24/7. Anybody have an idea how many they can spit out per day with 3 shifts?

The bottom line...

well it seems like the duals are shipping!!!! Everyone will have their computer soon. yea!!! This nightmare will soon be over...

finally........

How so are they shipping?

My date is still 10/14 (changed from 8/29)

One interesting thing to note: My sister ordered her 1.8 G5 about 2 weeks ago or so (maybe 2.5) her date was 10/1 and shipped on friday and will be at my house today! How insane is that sincei bought my 2ghz in July....Apple skrewed up BIG time!!! oh well good for her that shes got her computer but meanwhile im here in NYC without a comp for college! im using damn dells in the lab! AHH!

I just called the ADC Hardware Purchase Program too (800-793-9378) and they could not verify that my G5 (Dual 2GB) would be shipped today either. The order has been sent to manufacturing but there is no addition info. Original shipping date 9/2 and have received no emails to confirm or change that.
BTW, my order date was 12:22PM Pacific Time on June 23.

I just don't get how a company like Apple can hype something so much, then keep pushing dates back like this, and nobody give it any attention. Usually if a company pulled something like this, the investment news wires would be all over it... yet no one even mentions it. What's the deal? How does Apple get away with doing this to their customers?

Crap.

Well, it happened, the day AFTER it was supposed to ship. Around 6am this morning, my shipping date changed to 9/23. This sucks.

Have *ANY* dual 2ghz machines shipped?
