Wow so you're an ADC member and you ordered the day of the conference...that's screwed up. Guess I have no right to complain when I ordered mine 2 weeks after yours

ATTN: MATTG & jwrandall

Did you guys order cto duals or stock? Cause I'm wondering why I had an inital estimate of 8/29 and you 9/2 when I ordered the following business day after the keynote, or one day after you did. I am an edu buyer. Thanks

My dual 2.0 G5 is being built!

I ordered a dual 2.0 G5 July 24 and was given "on or before Oct. 3" for estimated shipping. I have an EDU institutional order of one unit, and have read they are shipping first, but when I contacted my sales rep with this info last week she said she didn't have that information.

I noticed my CC was preauthorized this morning (Sept. 3). So I emailed my sales rep about this and asked if this was just a hold or if it was being built. I was expecting just a hold, as it has been exactly one month since my last hold. However, she wrote:
Your machine has begun the build process. I’m going to anticipate your next question by saying that I do not know how long this will take. :)
I am not getting my hopes up to much. Maybe she is just telling me this to get me off her back. (ha-ha) I'll post back here if I receive any new information.

Was yours a CTO or a stock order? Just wondering because I placed a CTO order (Radeon 9800, bluetooth, airport extreme) around the same time (July 28th) and was given a date of October 7th. My order was also through the education store, now I am hoping that if yours ships soon I might have a chance of getting mine early as well.

I wouldn't be suprised if she was pulling your leg. I have already been charged the full amount for my CTO Dual 2.0GHz G5, but the shipping date has been pushed to the end of the month.

What I'm beginning to wonder is if there is something SERIOUSLY wrong, like something that called for a recall of all the Dual machines. I mean, doesn't it seem weird that not ONE of them has shipped yet? I could understand some orders getting delayed, but we haven't heard any reports of the Dual G5 machines trickling into stores yet or anything. It's the model that has the most orders, is getting the most hype, yet Apple hasn't shipped any out. Something's up and I think we deserve an explanation. I didn't even get the "your order is going to be another 10-15 days letter." They've just left me in the dark here.

You've actually been charged, or did they just put a hold on your account?

Yes, a charge. Not an authorization or a hold, but a charge, as reported by the credit cards automated customer service system. The charge doesn't match the complete amount for the computer, but it is a charge.

There doesn't seem to be a problem with the 1,100 Duals Virginia Tech ordered.

First off, have those even shipped yet? I've only read reports of them being *ordered*.

Second, I still don't see how that relates to them being backordered so far. Yeah, 1,100 seems like a lot of computers, but in the grand scheme of things, it's really not. I just read the specs somewhere--how many PowerMac G4's have they been producing each quarter?

"I am currently a student at Virginia Tech close to the G5 cluster project. The following is all i know about it:

Tech has ordered 1100 2GHz G5's, but only 1000 are for use in the cluster. The remaining 100 are incase the cluster does not meet the predicted benchmarks. As for the benchmarks, if all goes to plan, it will be the third fastest computer in the world. The computers are all base-models, except for 4GB of RAM in each box. The networking will be done with specialized cards not provided by Apple that will supposedly be 2 to 3 times faster than Fiber Channel. All the G5's were purchased at regular education price, although Apple gave Tech a price break on the RAM. The computers were ordered the day the G5 was announced, so it is unlikely that of the tens of thousands of pre-orders, the 1100 would cause any noticable backup. The shipments will be coming in burst, with 400 having arrived today." from https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36985

Also, check Page 2 Rumors.

Folks, seems like we need some moderation here on a couple of issues.

1. Any posts of a political nature will be removed as they are way OT and inflammatory. If you have a political axe to grind do it here.
2. Insults and rudeness are not permitted. Rude posts will be removed/edited and the poster warned. We have a very low tolerance for this sort of behavior.

Thanks. :)

Well, assuming that you actually have an order with Apple, congratulations! :D

I'm trying to check www.apple.com/orderstatus, but it will not load.

The order status site has been down since probably around 14:00 Eastern Time. I hope that is because they are doing many order status updates. This may have something to do with a meeting of all of the ADC Support staff that took place all of Friday.

How long has it taken for people to get their G5's once they have been charged?

That depends. I had two orders in, a1.8 and a dual 2.0. The 1.8 had a partial charge made several weeks before. I believe that this was discussed in several forums at the time.

It's possible that something similar is taking place for the dual-processor orders, but then why would the amount be so high? Of course, there may be another explanation, but I don't want to get my hopes up by thinking that Apple might actually ship something.

Now I have two big questions for you: When did you place your order (what date)? and Through which store did you order (regular, education,ADC,etc.)? The answers to those two questions might help to explain the charge.

Thanks for the info. I ordered it on July 16th through the educational store. Hopefully I'll have the precious in my hands soon!

I made my order for a dual 2G G5 minutes after the keynote...

Just tried to get order status at Apple and received:

"Did not receive any response from application. It is possible that the application does not exist, or that the requested url is incorrect."

Report Of A DOA G5 Being Returned to Apple For A "Known Issue"

The G5 mail list had a report from one of its members that when he pulled the plug to turn off his G5 - he didn't know about persistently pressing the power button - it would not reboot and when he called Apple to ask how to fix it they told him to take it back to where he bought it for an EXCHANGE. They said it was a known problem - whatever that means. It is still UNKNOWN to the general public I am sure.

So far I cannot get that guy to post which model G5 this happened with. I even sent him a personal mail directly but he is doing no replies.

What list is this? Where can I get more info! It certainly sounds like a list worth checking.

Phooey on Apple

Sounds like we may have gotten hosed by Apple... our college ordered three dualies through Apple Education the second week of July, and were given a ship date of August 29th, which was reconfirmed several times. After calling our contact late last week, apparently our ship 'window' is Sept 26 to October 15.

Thanks Apple! You guys ROCK!!

And to think, the Dell I'm writing this on was custom configured and delivered to my door in less than 24 hours...

Still waiting for DUALIE

Does anyone know anything new on the shipment of the Dual g5?
I order mine couple of hours after the keynote presentation, and have a on or before date of sept 22nd. My order is still open. Talk to a apple guy on the phone and he just told me between the 15th and the 22nd it will be shipped. For some reason I DONT HAVE MUCH FAITH IN APPLE ANYMORE, IS ANYONE WITH ME ON THIS?

In a word - NO. Apple is doing a great job of delivering all the G5's it can as soon as it can. Chill. Before you know it you will have it and you will love Apple for making it.

BTW there is a dual 2 G5 demo at the Austin Texas University of Texas Campus Bookstore. So for all of you in the Austin area - go check it out. You can actually touch, hug and play with it.

I have a pending charge on my credit card as of today for the full amount of the G5. I asked the cc company if they were just determining if I had money or were they charging me. He said, "no they are charging and requesting the money". Who knows though, he said if no post comes in 5 days they remove it. I will call Apple to see why they charged if no shipment until Sept. 29. We'll see.
