In a word - NO. Apple is doing a great job of delivering all the G5's it can as soon as it can. Chill. Before you know it you will have it and you will love Apple for making it.

BTW there is a dual 2 G5 demo at the Austin Texas University of Texas Campus Bookstore. So for all of you in the Austin area - go check it out. You can actually touch, hug and play with it.

Yeh.. I beg to differ... after calling the regular my apple number still wasn't feeling warm and fuzzy dual 2.0 order day of... mr. jobs "and they will be available in august" presentation told by apple rep I can only see what you can when you look at your order status.. on or before 22 September I pressed on to customer care...who explained to me Apple received a batch of defective hard drives and this is contributing to the delay. If you can believe that.....

Re: Still waiting for DUALIE

I pressed on to customer care...who explained to me Apple received a batch of defective hard drives and this is contributing to the delay. If you can believe that.....

I've heard that on Apple's Discussion forum too. But it makes no sense to me. Doesn't the 1.8 model come with the exact same 160 GB standard hard drive as the dual 2.0? So how could they be able to ship out 1.8's in fairly substantial quantities but not 2.0's? I guess if they're made in totally different facilities very far apart where the hard drives can't easily be moved btwn the 2, but that seems like it wouldn't be more than a couple of days to either ship them or (worst case) revamp the factory to build dual machines. . . .

I was told the same thing regarding the hard drives, but they mentioned the 250 gb drives that were delayed. I know that my order came or did I upgrade to a 250 gb drive. anywho, I also mentioned they had charged my card, Apple Rep said that they were not shipping, darn, but just checking to see if the funds were there. Why? To make sure in 3 weeks that they can charge me again when they decide to ship? Something is fishy!

nothing fishy on the card side... they haven't "charged" the card, but they've requested a 'reserve'.... that's beneficial both for them and for you. If it doesn't ship, that "hold" expires after a time (30-days, where I live)...

If you cancel the order, you could contact the CC company to remove the hold, but companies like Apple usually do that for you.

I don't know if the HD thing is real. But I could see where a few bad HDs in a batch of G5DP2 machines could cause another round of checks on 1,000s of assembled machines to find bad drives, and that could certainly cause a delay... weeks-long seems fishy, but then, maybe they had to reinsert them into the assembly line, or manually reinstall 1,000s of hard drives..... who knows!

tribalogical

Nothing fishy to me...
I believe they're just allocating their resources to other things because they think most people who ordered the Dual 2 will wait another month for it because it's a good value.

So we have to be squeaky wheels.

Also they really bit off more than they could chew, announcing Aug 29 ship date. Got good publicity from it, though, didn't they!

Well, look at it this way: if they don't ship by the end of the month they don't get to book the revenue for FY 03, so it's in their interest to get the machines out the door.

September 27th, to be exact (that's exactly what the Apple rep told me when I called this morning, "I would assume Apple will want to have all existing orders shipped by the 27th, as that is the last day of the fiscal (financial?) year" or something to that effect).

i got a really nice email from apple uk saying that my cto dual 2ghz ordered in early july would be shipping by the third week of september...

so just for the sake of it my order involves:

ati radeon 9800
2gb ram
bluetooth
airport
250gb

and i think that's it... so if they actually ship it in a week or two then i'll be happy happy as i was only expecting it in october :D

thanks apple! :D

I ordered mine a few minutes after the keynote, so I hope that goes for mee too...
:D

C'MON APPLE!!!!!!!!!!!

The rep told me mine is slated to ship out between the 16th and the 26th. The 16th...man, what potential that day could have. My Powermac could ship, and Apple will announce new Powerbooks. **droooooooooooooooooool**

Is your order stock or CTO (if so, what options)? What day did you order?

Is Student Developer Educational?

I'm purchasing my dual 2.0 using the student developer program, and last week it showed the dual 2 taking 10-15 days to ship. Not it's showing 3-5 weeks. School's started and I need a computer now!

I waited too damn long...or it was a mistake. Ah well. :(

I contacted Apple again today and received the same reply as last Wednesday (as my CC was preauthorized early in the AM last Wed for the amount of my G5). I was told last week my G5 was being built. Since it hadn't shipped one week later I have assumed that to be a lie, as it has been exactly one month since i was preauthorized, and I assumed they were just checking to see that I had the funds still available.

But today again, a different rep assured me my dual G5 was "in production." I mentioned that I was given this info one week ago and asked why it takes more than one week to build and ship a computer. I mentioned in past orders it took Apple 24-48 hours to build and ship a CTO Power Mac. Anyway, the rep told me they have no way of knowing what is holding up the G5's, as they do not have access to that kind of information, but yet somehow they have the information that my G5 is in production. Also, the rep said he has seen NO G5's ship as of this morning, so he didn't think they were going out yet.

I was still given an early date of Sept. 12 for shipping (a Friday, no less, so even with overnight shipping it takes 3 days to reach me) and as late as Oct. 3. I ordered on July 24, but have an EDU institutional order, so am hoping this jumps the line against all you non-EDU types.

Here's to hoping this ships on Oct 12th! (dual 2.0 G5/512MB/160GB/Radeon 9800/combo/no modem)

The 1.8

Okay, after a call from the local CompUSA today that they had a lot of G5's I got weak kneed and went in and bought the 1.8. I know the 2 Gig would be better but this thing still whacks the dual 1 Gig G4 I have. I bought the 23" CDisplay, added Bluetooth and a gig of memory. It is very quiet but strangely the HD sounds like the clickety-clackety drives in some of the older PBs! I hope that does not bode ill...
The system is hooked up to an Airport extreme network... how unbelievable that was to set up! In fact, there WAS no setup. It just configured itself and that was that. Disappointing in a way as I had absolutely NO input into it. It just worked. I would have liked to type in... something! Oh well! Thank's Apple.
Having played with some Sony's and so forth at the store while waiting to have the memory added, all I can say is... M$ and Win XP... you aren't even close. May the rest of the world figure THAT out!!
One more thing! My son's G5 shipped from Sydney to Brisbane TODAY!! Aussies, take heart... you are only a step behind the US. Very, very cool!

greetings! long time listner, first time caller....

so. now that the paris/powerbook fiasco is done, where the heck is my dual 2?!

on some other sites, I've seen a couple mentions of "a token 4-5" people actually receiving theirs. spymac has a thread that starts with a guy telling a sad, sad story about a beleaguered apple care special saying that none would ship any time soon, but later in the thread, another guy reports (with pics) having received his stock/non edu dual. here's that thread: http://www.spymac.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=39754a

anyone know what's going on?

well mine (in the uk and cto) should be shipping before the end of september, or so they say... but im not getting my hopes high hehe :)

it will b worth the wait whenever it arrives hehe :)

im still waiting for my 40gig ipod ordered a couple of weeks ago :S cmon apple, wake up!

afonso

Has your 40 Gig Ipod shipped?

Mine shipped on the 11th of September....From Shanghai, China

(In Transit) is the status on the Airborne Express Site.

It was estimated to arrive on the 15th but no sign of it yet.

BTW: My Dualie G5 still says shipping on or before the 29th.....Not getting my hopes up. We'll see.

I live in Texas. I ordered mine as a 30gig player but it was automatically changed to the 40gig model when they were announced 3-4 days later. So I think I might be one of the first to actually receive it. :) But I thought that about the dualie also.

yeah tell me about it... i ordered the dual ages ago, but all my cards got stolen a month ago and i forgot to warn apple about it, so they called me last week saying my card got declined and had to put a new order in for me!! right back at the queue!!

but after i had my small heart attack they told me they'd prioritize it and ship it asap, so hopefully that would mean this month... with my luck i'll get it in october, but i dunno, we'll c...

i just wish i had the ipod already... it got stolen as well and i really miss it :D it calms me down while at work hehe

Sorry about your stuff getting stolen. A friend of mine had his Rio Car Player stolen a couple of months ago. He's sick about it because he can't just go out and buy another one. Rio bought out Sonic Blue and then killed the product. (You may already know this because that player was invented in the UK)
Anyway, I've got one in my boat and love it, but I may replace it with an IPOD in the near future. The IPOD that I've got coming is for my wife/her car. I want to get it in and configure it/load our music collection on it. Then I can give it to her for our Anniversary in early October.

I'm not sure I understand why Apple continues to "PING" our credit cards. It's like the products not ready yet they keep going:

Is the Money there?
Is the Money there?
Is the Money there?
Is the Money there?

And I want to say:

Is my Dualie here?
Is my Dualie here?

Anyway Good luck getting you new ipod and Dualie.

At some point I'd really like to see new thread out here with every post being:

I just got my dualie and it's SWEET! :D
