According to a reseller, the channel is from Ingram Micro is empty of PowerMacs, and on backorder.

Update: Apparently, Ingram Micro does have stock at this time.

An upgrade to the PowerMac line has been expected for the past few weeks, with initial expectations falling on MWNY, and most recent rumors suggesting dates of Aug 5th and Aug 13th.

TOMORROW!! please.. I need to decide if it's a powerbook, imac or tower for me.....

and the dual 1.4ghz seem very resonable. I wouldn't expect any higher clock speeds.

Apple release days

I've noticed that Apple seems to do major product updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which makes 1 August sound good, or 6 August.

I can't remember any that ever came out on a Wednesday (other than Macworld Keynotes). And, major OS updates (not sub-releases) have seemed to been Saturday affairs for the past two years.

I hope it's tomorrow or Tuesday the 6th.

As of this writing, Ingram lists 900+ G4/800MHz's in stock, and 300+ Dual G4/1GHz's. Zero G4/933MHz machines.

Personally, the sooner Apple announces the new towers, the better. I can't wait to order my first brand-new desktop in 6 years!

Dont get too excited, I bet its just another 133Mhz increase with some sort of DDRAM. Even that would not be bad.

if it includes DDR i would be fairly happy but a duel 1.4ghz or even 1.5 with DDR would be really nice!

"a 133 mhz increase would be ok"

P4 will be at 3 ghz in less than three months. Its had DDR for ages.
So a 1.2 ghz PM will be ok? For us maybe, but for pros or for switchers. NO WAY.

possible PowerBook upgrade as well?

I've heard through some sources (hopfully reliable) that a power book upgrade was due very very soon. the source said about 2 weeks...and that was about 2 weeks ago. maybe there will be more than one product announcement whenever it comes. i'm in the market for a new powerbook and dying to see what happens. just thought i'd share what i heard.:)

I've noticed that the Apple store is now quoting seven day ship dates for all stock G4 desktop configurations (except the 733 EDU only model). Powerbooks are still shipping in 1-3 days. Looks like a desktop refresh is imminent, but Apple may be holding off on TiBooks until the laptop Superdrive is closer to being ready.

My 2¢

I agree. The Tibooks were updated not to long ago, so even if they have faster processors for them, they might just wait for the superdrive.

I assume the release of the new PowerMacs is contingent on, among other things, the release of Jaguar. Since that supposedly went gold master today, new PowerMacs may indeed be just around the corner. Hopefully the crazy vents and heatsink means the new towers are packing a lot of heat.

Your 2 cents aint worth 2 cents! I just checked the Apple Store (7:45 a.m. CT Aug 1) and both the dual 1GHz and 933MHz stock configurations are still showing 1-2 days as the shipping time. That is regular Apple Store.

I just checked education and they are showing 7 days for the same computers. VERY INTERESTING!!!!!!!

EDIT: I just checked the LCD displays for EDU and they are showing 1-2 days shipping time.

I've waited this long. What is 1-2 more weeks?

i don't think the update will be very big. 133 bus, thusly providing half-assed DDR usage, and maybe a speed bump. BFD! i don't expect anything worthwhile until '03.
