Other Preordered iPhone 14 pro max at apple store online, financing with T-Mobile to get the 1000 promo for trade in. Is the 14 pro max unlocked?

Trying to see if there’s confirmation on this. I understand if I order at the T-Mobile site it’s locked to T-Mobile but I thought if ordered at apple it’s unlocked. Although if I’m financing with T-Mobile does that change it to being locked?
 
Pretty sure all devices ordered through Apple, except those ordered with AT&T financing, come unlocked. You'd still be on the hook for the bill credits or installment payments if you cancelled your T-Mobile service.

That’s what I thought too. I did ask a “specialist” and they said it’d be locked to the carrier, so that made me confused a little. I prefer my phones unlocked but I wanted to take advantage of the 1000 trade in promo through tmobile………
 
I'm not a T-Mobile customer but I am curious which trade-in devices gets $1000 promo? All or only specific ones?
