Has anyone else noticed that the GOOGLE bookmark icon sets to the google logo weather or not you actually zoom into it. (I am talking about the mobile page the classic page does not follow suit).

Maybe this will be a way for big name sites to create custom icons for iphone users.

i noticed this too. I like the google icon. But i wish it would do it for other sites as well..

anyone know ones that have pre-programed icons with?

ps- is there a mobile wikipedia site?

is there a specific address for iphones google page, i seem to be just getting the standard one

i noticed this.. but then i didn't think THAT much of it... google works so close with apple and the iphone ...

But i wonder if they'll announce how they do it and if other websites (like macrumors) will do it..

anyone know how to get it so when you hit the search button in safari, the resulting google page is the mobile site?

Wirelessly posted (8Gb iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A93 Safari/419.3)

I believe it says how to do this in the webapp sdk

Create a WebClip Bookmark Icon

iPhone and iPod touch allow a user to save a WebClip bookmark to your site on their Home Screen.

To specify a bookmark icon for all pages of a web site, place a PNG image named "apple-touch-icon.png" at the root directory of your web server - similar to the "favicon.ico" for site icons.

To override the site bookmark icon on a specific web page, insert a <link> element similar to <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/customIcon.png"/> within the <head> element of the page.

The bookmark icon dimensions should be 57x57 pixels. If the icon is a different size it will be scaled and cropped to fit.

Safari will automatically composite the icon with the standard "glassy" overlay so it looks like a built-in iPhone or iPod application.

Is it only me that doesn't understand this?:confused:

I made a really lame one for my website and than did the logo for a friends site. Its alot nicer to have the icon instead of a the web clipping. Lets home more and more sites do this.

I totally use flightaware all the time! I work in the airline industry. is there an iPhone web app for it yet?

Not yet but it's in the timeline. We're holding off to see what the SDK looks like before we decide what direction to go. CIO and CTO are both iPhone users, though, so it's pretty much a given that we'll do something. :)

Yes me. I am a PC user and need SLOOWWW BIG EASY words to figure this out. Okay, so I am sure one of you guys can translate to english for us :)

I assume I make a small file on my computer save it somewhere and then like to that or something. It has to be easier then I think

It took me a week to figure out the ringtones with XP but know that I know it is a snap. I am sure this is the same. Some kind person will chime in any minute now :)

This is not information you need, then. This is information that can be used by webmasters and website operators to set a custom iPhone/iPod Touch icon for the sites that they run. It's not anything that can be used by iPhone/iPod Touch users directly.

WebClip Favelet

Yeah, I created a custom icon for iDecisive as well (I know, no one cares).

You might care about this favelet I made though. If sites aren't adding apple-touch-icon images fast enough to suit you, you can take matters into your own hands:
