Well this would be another big blunder by the orange blunder himself. nothing says I deny racism by pardoning a big racist.

Maybe he wants to go through the pardon process now so he's prepared to pardon just about everyone associated with him later?

Probably just a run through to see how it works.
Makes it easier when he starts pardoning himself and his associates.

This guy is an ass of the first degree. No wonder Trump would associate with him.

Joe Arpaio refused a judge's order to refrain from racially profiling Latinos during patrols and detaining them, a practice which resulted in numerous US Citizens and legal residents being detained and jailed unconstitutionally simply on the suspicion that they were in the country illegally.

He served inmates in his jails spoiled food and limited them to two meals a day.

He set up a tent city which he called a "concentration camp" and forced inmates to live outside in the tents when temperatures reached 110F outside, and over 145F inside the tents.

He reinstituted the use of chain gangs.

He ignored reports of rape by a 13-year-old girl, which were later proven to be true.

The food was not spoiled. That was a rumor started because the bologna they served had a green tint.
Health department declared the food fit for human consumption.

The one that sparked the most outrage was when he took away coffee.

Another false story. He never called them a concentration camp... his detractors made that distinction.

As for the heat, inmates could go indoors during daytime hours if they chose to. They slept in the tents and they had portable A/C units blowing in them when the inmates were there. Not exactly comfortable living, but not how his detractors depict it.
A friend of mine spent 30 days in one during the parts of June/July a few years back for a misdemeanor trespass offense.
He said it was hot, but prisoners were allowed to go inside during the day to stay cool.
The rec area inside is air conditioned.

    Nothing wrong with that.
They do a good job of keeping the roadsides clean.
Females join them on a strictly voluntary basis.
You'd be surprised how many prefer it to sitting in a cell all day.

The rest of your comments are pretty much spot on.

I stand corrected... I've never heard him say it in the 20+ years he's been Sheriff.
I've heard Dems rip him for it.

The likeness between Arpaio and Trump is not surprising.

I'm not terribly concerned about this although I don't support it in any way. Arapio is no longer sheriff and has no real power. His conviction is there as a warning to other law enforcement officers, and the pardon doesn't change that. He isn't going to hurt anyone more by not being punished than if he is punished, so I see this as a way for trump to alienate more moderates without actually hurting the country much.

Arpaio was one of the worst things to ever happen to Maricopa County.

He wasted millions by pursuing blatantly illegal policies, violating the U.S. Constitution so egregiously that the federal government took away the county's 287g status, and he was held liable for civil contempt, and convicted of criminal contempt.

The man lied in court repeatedly, claiming that he didn't know about the order, when its clear from interviews that he understood the order and was refusing a federal court order because he saw himself above the law.

Meanwhile, in his zeal to go after immigrants, Arpaio took money devoted to pursuing sex crimes and ignored hundreds of reports of such crimes, including the rape and sexual molestation of children.

Overall, under Arpaio's tenure, the MCSO mishandled up to 400 cases of sex crimes. At the same time, the response rate for the entire agency fell and rampant spending on immigration sweeps meant that the agency had to close other facilities and operations.

The agency racially profiled Latinos and used post-hoc reasoning to create probable cause, and the agency was successfully sued for violating the U.S. Constitution.

Arpaio should go to jail, even if only for six months.

Trump would grant a pardon to deceased pals Roger Ailes (Fox News Molester-in-Chief) and Bernie Madoff if he could.

And he would gladly pardon (former KKK honcho) David Duke if DD had been in prison right now.
