Don't think this was posted, but if it has, let me know so I can have the mods remove it.

    Anyway the main highlights:

    * removal of Iraq from the list (apparently
    * exempts citizens from those 6 countries who are legal US permanent residents / have valid visas to enter the US (including those whose visas were revoked during the original implementation of the ban)
    * suspends admission of refugees into the US for 120 days to improve vetting process
    * removal of the Christians Are Priority stuff

Pretty sure there's a reason behind that, as well as the removal of Iraq. I guess you pick and choose who you would let in based on your personal interests.

It's not his personal interests. Our government for decades hasn't been able to say "boo" to SA.

If you're referring to oil you'd be right, except for Iraq. GOP congress members were getting flack at town halls because Iraqi translators who helped our troops were being denied, and they couldn't figure out a way to dismiss them.

    Also

The Trump administration has reduced the total number of refugees to be admitted to the United States in fiscal year 2017 from 110,000 to 50,000.

SA is the biggest importer of US Military Weapons with contracts worth in the Billions + they have oil. If that's not personal interests I don't know what is. Yet SA is the biggest supporter and funder of terrorism.

Of course that number could always change, depending on what side of the bed Steve Bannon wakes up on.

Can't help to think he's just sleeping on that couch in the oval office with some empty beer cans (or Russian Vodka) on the floor.

I thought Trump wasn't one of the good ole boys and was doing things differently.

What magical thing is going to happen in 120 days? America has been held hostage Trump has been in office for 44 days. And refugees are already vetted far longer than 120 days. So I do not see what this accomplishes other than soothing Trump's fear-based insecurities.

Oil is one reason, Iraq actually didn't politically retaliate as it still wanted help fighting ISIS in North Iraq... which is pretty ironic, don't cha think?

Nothing. This new order (and the original one) were about one thing, and one thing only: Sadism.

Trump, and a lot of the sort of people who voted for him, are basically sadists. They just want to hurt some Muslims. This isn't about preventing terrorism, because, as all the studies have shown, there simply has never been a case where an immigrant or tourist from one of the affected counties has come to the US commit such an act.

It's simply about Trump being able to say he came through on his vow h to shut down immigration of (some) Muslims until "we can figure out what's going on."

Don't worry Trump, we've figured out what's going on with you a long time ago.

Makes sense. I have long thought that about many Republicans. They couldn't make a case against gays in court either. It was really just about animus towards a group of people. A common theme.

Will the left be supportive of anything other than "let them all in, no questions asked"?

The Syrian ban is also not permanent.

Both the State Department and Defense Department asked Trump to remove Iraq from the list.

    See, he sometimes listens :).

I think that it's more like whatever Trump wants, no matter what it is, the left is against :).

Do you understand that no one, absolutely no one, has suggested "let them all in, no questions asked"?

The current process includes a screening process that takes a minimum of 6 months. It can often take 2+ years.

    1. I've never heard anyone ask for that, including myself or anyone here.

    2. Your response didn't answer my question regarding what magical thing changes in 120 days.

I think in all fairness, that should sound eerily familiar... like the right after the 2010 mid term elections. :)
