    The takeaway:

Since it is an insurance plan, people will have to pay into it - so it doesn't make sense why it's an "entitlement".

I don't think it's a terrible idea, especially in a globalist economy when someone can send your job to India at the drop of a hat.

It's not a bad idea but it will be seen as a step to guaranteed basic income, as some European countries have. That would be an entitlement. Can imagine how this would fly with the Republicans. But good to let them go on record as against it since eventually every developed country will have something like that. We seem to have to drag our feet on social safety nets for a long time before we implement them in the USA. This way Obama sets the marker for when the drawing board was set up.

Hussein... the one guy who really knows no limits when it comes to spending money. Programs to assure the public never has to say he didn't give them loads of free help to dampen the blow of facing reality. Anything to make himself look good and help to improve his tragic legacy.

Tragic legacy, right. Wrong prez. Try George W. Bush. That "piece of cake" war machine ate up so much money it's sickening. That's before we were sickened by the human tragedy that's still going on in Iraq today and back here at home in the wards of VA hospitals where rehab still goes on. And on.

You don't get it that if there is no safety net under citizens of the USA, eventually our situation degrades to anarchy when there's no jobs, no money, no housing, no food.

I don't care how many guns the 2A fans stack up before then, anarchy is a game that no one wins. Best not play that game. Best line up alternatives, including education, job training, apprenticeship programs, small business support. And yes, basic income guarantees, because shifting gears to the much higher proportion of highly educated workers required, than when manufacturing was less automated, is going to take decades given the foot-dragging the GOP does.

From the link "One possible way to cover the cost would be to slightly increase employers’ unemployment insurance tax."
In other words, more federal withholdings

Um ... that's at least one of the reasons behind the plan ...
But why soften any blows? This is America, right? We like our blows hard and life altering.

    Builds character.

Probably. This would be tough to operate as an "opt-in," but there would be some advantages for people in sector of the economy that experience rapid shifts.

    Only if they're done right.

No benefits for you. I'm sure you will be allowed to pay into this socialism, unless you're self employed.

I was thinking that too... so many jobs are length-of-project now. How long is that? Six weeks? Eight months?

Living in the past and playing the victim, is the default value of liberals. Never responsible is the Hussein way, which is the way he's influenced his disciples to live. It's an entertaining show of gullible minions that believe every word right wrong or otherwise.
