Previous top model of iMac (2.8GHZ QUAD-CORE INTEL CORE I7) compared to 3.2GHz Intel?

    I've tried to find some benchmarks or performance charts comparing on how the previous 2.8GHZ QUAD-CORE INTEL CORE I7 now compares to the brand-new 3.2GHz Intel Core i3? Any comments?

    Short Version...
    The 'mid 2010' iMacs are incrementally faster than the 'late 2009' iMacs. Because of that, many readers reported they are pouncing on the closeout prices of the 'late 2009' iMac.

    Both the 2010 and 2009 iMacs are signficantly faster than the 2007 and older iMacs -- at least in some cases. Cinebench and Geekbench are designed to show the maximum potential of the Mac. iTunes shows the other extreme. It is representative of many apps we use daily that don't take advantage of multiple cores and may be slowed by multiple disk accesses.

    Some of you are waffling between the low-end Mac Pro and high-end iMac. As you can see, the performance is very close. The main advantages of the Mac Pro are ease of upgrades and choices (displays, drives, GPUs). The main advantages of the iMac are cost and compactness.

    I know it doesn't include i3-550 but it gives you the idea. i7-860 is a lot better as it goes up to 3.46GHz with Turbo so it's even faster than the i3

    There's some benchmarks on Macworld you can compare.

    Core i3 3.2 GHz

    Core i7 2.8GHz

    The 3.2GHz Core i3 CPU supports Hyper Threading, which allows the processor to use virtual cores to better handle heavy workloads, but doesn’t support Turbo Boost, where the processor shuts down unused cores and boosts the speed of the active core.

    The quad-core 2.8GHz Core i5 doesn’t support Hyper Threading, but it does support Turbo Boost.

    The Core i7 also features Turbo Boost (for speeds of up to 3.46GHz), and it also has Hyper-Threading technology that can present itself to highly threaded applications as having eight virtual cores.
