I take it he left the scene on foot, as opposed to the usual hit-and-run driver who drives away.

A little duct tape and the Mercedes will be as good as new.

Hitting and running, now thats a major idiot. I've driven past 210 mph in short bursts but this guy appears to be driving in a residential area.

That's right kiddies, that is...er, was...a £300k McLaren Mercedes SLR  Reportedly (though we are talking about The Sun here, so take that as you will), he was involved in a 209mph hit and run!
I'm impressed at the cabin integrity that remains, I guess for $600K you get some safety engineering built in, heh?

Oh - I 'specially like the bit at the end where the injured man's identity is being kept private by the police, but the Sun you pay YOU if you know who he is -- Call Now! Operators are waiting! Scuzzballs.

He seemed to have hit a Golf!

I have a Golf too!! :(

I hope the victim will one day speak of his misfortune as:

- Victim: "ya know, my previous Golf increased its value ten-fold overnight!"
- Friend: "Huh?? how?"
- Victim: "Got most of the chassis of a McLaren Merc drilled into it"
:D

Here's a twist - but to hell with the id10t driving the car, seeing such a beautiful machine, looking like that - essentially cheesegrated into the pavement, really breaks the heart.

it's been reported that he's been arrested for "leaving the scene of an accident" I'm sure they'll chuck the book at him once they find out exactly how he was driving....

This is NOT a car-park door-scratch incident... :D

Na-who?

i apologize for not being familiar with Mr. Hamed (or am I supposed to use Prince?...we americans are such slobs with royalty), but I've never heard him speak - how is it that he is deemed an idiot by hearing him speak? the pictures speaks many words about idiocy, but...

It certainly isn't – although the doors do seem to have come off better than the rest of the car... :D

Actually the doors on the SLR McLaren are Forward Gull wings - they're still attached :D

I don't see any way possible for that car to take a 209mph run on residential streets.

I know well what the car's capable of, but that's the top of its range and requires quite a bit of road to run up to that speed. There's also too much of the car left.

Moreover, when the Sun reports it as a "209 mph car crash" I'm pretty sure they're being a slight bit disingenuous. It is a 209 mph car, and it was in a crash, so technically it was a 209 mph car crash, but not at 209 mph.

How would anyone have known the exact speeds involved?

Bingo.

Had that crash really happened at a speed in excess of 200mph, you would have been sweeping up thousands of car parts strewn for miles.

There is no way a car such as a Golf, or even the SLR, could survive with some resemblence of structural integrity if it had crashed at such a high speed.

Well if one considers what witnesses have stated, he was trying to attempt an overtaking move on a country road, the maximum speed on such roads is 60mph, (although it could have been a 50 or even 40 zone). In which case one would assume that it was probably in the 60-70mph range.

He was lucky that it was frontal offset, because if it'd been head on, judging by the front offside, he wouldn't have been so lucky.

The SLR is a massively strong car though, it's the first production car with a fully carbon fibre crash structure... you can see all the shards of carbon fibre in the second picture.

I'd bet money on that car going back to McLaren/Mercedes for research purposes. ;)

I know they're still attached – I meant 'come off better' as in they've ended up in a better condition than the rest of the car, which looks like it could need some work.

My knowledge of cars is very, very patchy (I could only have identified this car as being 'a white one') but even I could spot the gull wings. ;)

I have had the pleasure of sitting in one of those cars, whoever drove that must not have appreciated it for what it is.

Wow. You come to the conclusion that the Prince is a jerk based on a news report? I'll save my judgement until I know ALL the facts.

He's not royalty, he's a [retired] boxer who calls himself Prince.
