I have a 2nd gen 32gb iPod Touch (3.1.2) that has been working great until now (I haven't done anything differently or dropped it at all.) It flickers on and off by itself five, six times in a row. The red arrow "slide to power off" comes on sometimes even if nothing is touched. It does this no matter what I'm doing (music, videos, apps or even just sitting there doing nothing.) Clicking only the "Home" button will take pictures of the screen instead of going to the main screen.

I've only tried resetting it. Besides restoring/update the software or going to an Apple store, does anyone have any other solution ? I would only do the restore as the last resort since my media is managed manually on my iPod. iTunes still recognizes it when plugged in.

Thanks for any response.

Put it in DFU mode and then restore from backup and then if that doesnt work then set it up as a new device.
