Problem updating Firmware?

Itouch 3rd Gen
Firmware 3.1.3

I hacked this, then I decided to update it to 4.0 firmware through itunes;;
and now my itouch is stuck on this recovery mode, where the screen stays on the picture of the USB cord pointing to the iTunes logo.
And itunes doesn't even recognize my itouch.
There's no "Ipod Touch" that comes up on my itunes

Anyone know how to fix this? I tried rebooting but doesn't work

Try putting it into DFU mode.

That worked and got my itunes to recognize my itouch.
But now, when I clicked restore, it said "An unknown error has occured. (1601)."

What do I do now? Is the only way exchanging it for another one at the store?

I called apple about the error code and they said it was the USB port problem...
so i restored it on a different computer so it's all good now~ just have to get it jailbroken (4.0)
